They are both fair deals for sure at the prices listed, however keep in mind restoration costs are not cheap....Spending more money up front for a done car, or close to done, might be a better investment. :2cents:

You would have to put 30k into that 70 to get it to the condition of the 16k 72.

I agree both are good deals, the 70 challenger being the best to me as it would have the most value at the end. What are you looking for a stock appearance car or a resto mod type car? For me I like stock appearing everywhere except when you pop the hood, I'm leaning towards a new hemi at the moment since I have one on the floor and the options for injection becoming easier

The price of the 70 is now $3200 I think it is a pretty good deal if it checks out as long as you don't get too carried away with the restoration. It is pretty local to me and you should be careful because there must be something wrong with it,  its been for sale too long.

if you want one of the two I would say go with the 70. Im a little swayed because I like the chally more than the cuda but it also sounds like the challenger is further along than the cuda is...just gotta find an engine and trans, get her painted, and little button up..sounds easy enough, right  :misbehaving: :stirpot:

I'd buy that '72 and drive the crap out of it! :burnout: And I wouldn't say I'm particularly biased to the '72 body style, since I actually intend to hang '71 sheetmetal on my '72 Challenger.

But seriously. I bet if you talked him down a bit you could get the '72 for 13-14k. And if more original looking is your thing, the '72 is really only a rim/tire change away from looking a lot more original.

Either of the other two cars are probably $20 to $30k and YEARS away from being on the road. The '70 appears to be the better deal of the other two, but only if the sheetmetal work has been done properly. If it wasn't, it's more work than the rusty car. That 'cuda is not for the faint of heart either. That one could go either way, it might be mostly cosmetic, or it could be a rusty disaster. Even if its mostly cosmetic there's a lot of work to do. As far as the '70 having a higher resale, maybe a little bit. It's going to be non-matching #'s no matter what, and it was only a 318 car to start with anyway. Not exactly Barrett-Jackson material. You'd probably get your money back on a resale, but its no gold-mine.

If the '72 is solid and doesn't need a full resto, it's a no brainer for me. You can drive that car right now, add a few touches here and there, and never need to sink tens of thousands into a full resto. The money is a big deal, but the time is even bigger. Full restorations take YEARS. A few if you're lucky, a lot more than a few if you're not. Meanwhile, you could be driving the '72. Sure, you won't make any money on the resale of the '72, probably none at all. On the other hand, you can drive and enjoy it. And keep in mind that if you have to sell either of the cars that need a full resto before they're fully complete, not only will you not make money, you'll probably lose a ton. Without even having any fun along the way.

I'd buy the car you want. Especially if you are thinking long term.

Great advice,
So very true, many projects start out with great intentions but fade and die from lack of time and money.
Drive now or dream car later (much later if at all).

You can always sell the '72 if you find a '70 you like later. You won't likely make money on the '72, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with it in the meantime. And if you can talk the guy down a couple thousand it wouldn't be hard to sell it for what you pay for it. If you buy a project and can't finish it you won't be able to buy another one later, as you'll definitely lose money on that. No one ever plans on not finishing, and I'm not saying you have to, but especially with cars that need a full restoration its something to keep in mind. A lot can happen in a few years, especially if the budget needs to be $20 or $30k.

It pays not to be in a hurry either. I bought my '72 as soon as it showed up on Craigslist. And its been a decent car, but it definitely has issues bigger than what I thought. And of course, within a week of me buying my car, several other E-bodies popped up for less in similar condition. Always how it works. But if I had looked at a few cars first, I would have had a bit more perspective, and I might have learned a few things to look for before I learned the hard way.

Looks like the 70 Challenger has A/C dash, RT hood, Console. Rallye wheels etc.  If you Want a respectable restored R/T tribute, it would make a very nice 1!
be surprised how far 5,000-10,000 bucks would go    IF!  you love doing the work yourself . I believe that most members here do this :). 340-383-440 with at least 8 3/4 rear  727 Automatic.
just think;  it would look like these pics if you stayed fairly true:

My wife ?   O.K.
My dog ?    Maybe
My Dodge? NEVER!!!
