Shifters

I have a -67 Pontiac which i am in the progress of converting from auto trans to a manual 4 speed.

The trans i have has a Hurst shifter and linkage so true to our brand, i am thinking of bolting in a pistol grip stick (that would raise some comments from the hard core Pontiac fans...).

Quite sure that an E-body stick is too short, an B-body too long so i was thinking an A-body might work. Tried to find info on the web re lengths but no luck.

Any ideas? Measurements as below pic would be helpful.

A-body and B-body shifters will be nearly identical as the shift position is in the same location where they mount on the gearbox buddy.
If you have a fabricator near you, they should be able to make what you want, if you get stuck at all and can make a cardboard template of a handle length and shape you want, we could work something out as i do make shifter handles and have the profiles here to make a one off pistol grip handled shifter. I do custom fabrication and restoration for a living buddy

Never bought Mopar parts from Australia before but why not... Should be slightly cheaper shipping than from US.

That could be something, length seems to be somewhere between a B- and E- body shifter.

When you are having a look, remember their is different styles to suit console and non-console cars, some have got crazy bends in them to clear stuff. Do you have a picture of the Shifter for your car right now that you could post up please.

B body console dog leg - longest
B body no console straight - longest
B body Bench seat 71 up medium
 A body - medium length but were the A body cars available with them , I do not believe they were  , I think the ones I have seen use the B body bench shift handle

My shifter and trans is out of some small plastic Chevvviee sports car, Corv... something. So the shifter is short and straight and will be way off.
An original GTO shifter has a bend (as below pic).

As you know, there are short throws in a Hurst so even tough the B-body 71 shifter is more bent, think it might work. I also prefer to move the seat back as much as possible.

Good luck Buddy, decisions decisions I think you do really want to stick it to the Pontiac guys don't you

Keep in touch, i can also modify the selector plates to make the shifter have a shorter throw, you may find someone their that can do this modification for you also, thanks for showing the difference of the shifters, i was not sure what 67 Pontiac you had, but i also have buddies here with 67 Goats that i can take measurement from if you go down that road.
