All of my EFI systems only need to stay hooked to the battery for about 15 seconds after the key is turned off. This is to close the Idle air control motor, then pull it open to the park position for the next start up. It also stores any new learned info back to the proms.
I then get out of my cars, pop the hood, then disconnect my ground battery post at the quick-disconnect everytime I park in the garage. My Edelbrock I installed in 2006 was the same way.
