Project cars in Asia
« on: January 10, 2014 - 03:04:38 AM »
I am living in Thailand since many years back and up to recently, the interest for US cars has been on the low side. Partly due to an import ban on used cars but also on major import taxes on parts.

This is slowly catching up and below you have a mixed bag of pics i got from a friend on ongoing project cars. Chevys and Fords are most popular with Mustangs being the favorite.

Take the pics for what they are, this is in Asia so most shops are open-air and look like sh-t (sorry) with stuff laying all over the place.

Very cool. Some great looking cars there. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting stuff considering the disadvantages of finding parts and knowledgeable people.  Thanks for the pictures.

Always cool to see that kind of stuff, on the other hand it always depresses me to see how many of the American muscle cars, aren't in America anymore.  :wavingflag:

Most 60-70:s US cars was sold new trough dealers but loads of cars was also brought in to military personnel during the Vietnam war era. US had army bases in Thailand also after the war so i guess thats why you can find 2 door muscle cars and not only 4 door sedans.

Its hard to trace the history of a car but the rumor has it that my Challenger was brought in to a guy who was stationed her several years.
Anyway, took me 15 years to gather my little collection so it is rare to find nice cars.

Didnt Korea have US army bases as well?

Had and have. I am stationed at one of the Air Force bases that has been here for 50 years. The only "muscle" I have seen is a brand new challenger and a couple of 90's style mustangs and firebirds.

I see. Then you surely know more than me about military history in Asia.
Anyway, hope you can go back home frequently to enjoy your E-body.
