72 Challenger built by Lindon Collisons in Utah - Custom Grille
« on: January 10, 2014 - 11:15:12 AM »
72 Challenger built by Lindon Collisions in Utah, car is really well built. The custom grill keeps the 72 style but enhances it so much. Looks simple too, may take a stab at something similar for my 73. Any idea what kind of mesh they used? Doesn't look like anything I've seen before..

Need to see more of the car to form an opinion.  I'm not a fan of shaved door handles on E-bodies...they are already flush mounted.  The rear end looks like it's shortened way too much....or the wheel offset needs to be changed. :2cents:

I like the front headlights. Not sure what they came out of, but they do look modern. I think i would stay with the regular 72 look over the screen look. I have seen other grill modifications that look better.

Love the whole front end, was never a fan of the 72-74 grills.
Saw another car once, where the guy had incorporated a barbed wire type of screen, looked nice too.

I saw a custom billet grill  on ebay awhile back. UTVproducts was the seller. You might be able to pull up an old listing by typing in this item #170871659018

Build quality seems decent, but the mono-chrome look never really does it for me, especially in the black/charcoal look popular these days and even when done in colors ( like back in the '80s.) Can't say the grill excites me too much either.  The set back of the upper grill combined with the push out of the lower grill makes it seem awkward when looking at some of the 3/4 views posted in the link. Straight on it doesn't look awful, but the texture doesn't really do anything for me.

IOf you are looking for materials to do you own, these guys have all sorts of material with holes in it: http://www.mcnichols.com/viewer.htm

Myself, I think this era of Challenger presents itself well for having a more flush mount grill as opposes to the recessed grill of the '70 version. If I were to pursue a non-stock grill, which I'm slowly working towards myself, I would tend to use an orientation similar to other offerings of the same era. For example, the same lines as a Charger, Polara, or Monoco.

The grille is almost completely different from what I'm planning at the moment, but the headlight treatment is similar to something I've thought about doing. I think Tony may have a point about flush mount grille working with the sad mouth, but I'm really trying to hide the sad mouth as best as I can, and what I'm after, I hope, will have a significant recessed look to it.

Question: it looks like they pulled the bumper back, but it also looks like they might have extended the fenders and the hood. Am I imagining this?

I think that is the illusion created by recessing the upper grill section. Look at the width of the accent line that wraps up over the top of the fender in that area. Looks like its the stock width compared to my '74, but look how deep their headlights are set comared to the stock grill set up. They moved the whole header back.
