wheels
« on: January 13, 2014 - 08:38:19 PM »
Getting real close to buying wheels for the Barracuda. It has the 8 3/4 rear end but I did move the leafs in 1 1/2" I believe. I believe most are running an 8 to a 9 in. rim in the back. Will the relocation allow me to run a 10 or 11in. tire in the rear? How will that affect the back spacing? or offset?
keep honking I'm reloading

An 8" rim should have a 4.5" backspace. I have 8" rims with a 255/60 tire and 3.75" backspace. It's too tight on the outside. So based on that, if my calculation is correct it will be very full with an 11" rim. 10" should be fine with a 6.5" backspace. I think I have that figured out right. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

What rear housing is in your car?

Yes, typically moving the springs in allows a wider wheel, however you are still limited by the wheel housing on absolute size of the tire in regards to width and height and the rear end housing will determine what backspace your wheel will need.

For example, with the stock E body housing, you may need 6", with a 68-70 B housing you would need 5", or a 66-67 housing you may need 5.5"

I run a 12" wide tire on a 10" rim under my Challenger with room on both sides, but it is the result of careful measurement and the considerations above. You also want to check both sides of the car as sometimes it different side to side.

My leafs were moved in 1.5". I have 10.5" wide 17" rims with 12.4" wide rubber. My backspacing is 6".
