Hydraulic clutch options?
« on: April 10, 2005 - 09:18:59 AM »
Has anyone experimented or converted to a hydraulic clutch over the original linkage? Is there a junkyard setup that would work well? I ask because I am converting an automatic over and I found a wrecked Mustang GT with a 5 speed and thought maybe the setup could be retrofitted in a Challenger. I wonder if the clutch/brake pedal set up would also work instead of having to pay for the high priced anbd hard to find original pieces. BTW I am trying to build a "wife" friendly clutch set up.

Thanks

Yep I been running hydraulic for years and years . Wife friendly ...then hydraulic is the way to go 4 sure especially if you have a heavy clutch in it. As for the mustang system ..I never seen one to tell . I switched from a auto to stick and without the factory pedl setup and  z bar using mechanical linkage is a nitemare. Originally I ws given a master & slave off a sprint car that had International Harvester on it. This year I replaced it witj a new master and slave for the same thing BUT there are better combinations so dont copy mine.Just keep in mind that you want at least a 1" bore on the master (preferably more) and as long a stroke as possible and the slave should be at least 7/8 to 1" bore and at least a 2" stroke. This willl give you more than enuff volume and stroke to be able to adjust and not have to pump to get full release .
look for truck masters and get the associated slave.

Yep, trying to make a nice reliable driver out of the Challenger. It makes it easier to buy stuff if she thinks I am doing it for her too. I am also looking at a Ford EFI conversion like 1974Cuda360 is running.

I have a 5.9 Magnum and an A518 automatic that I am having checked out also as that may go in. Right now the project it is in the "design" stage.

If I want to break as sweat I take out my dad's '68 Super Bee 383. No power steering or brakes and an 11" clutch. :burnout:

I wouldnt put it in a e or b body but an a body swap with a 3.9 liter and a 5 speed would be cool, read crashed Dakota
