Side Exhaust Underside Pics Wanted
« on: January 19, 2014 - 02:53:30 PM »
Anyone have any pics of side exhaust systems from the underside? Not building a t/a clone but want a similar side exhaust system exiting through a rectangular tip, similar to the many beck chops. Need to figure out the best way to plumb the pipes and what mufflers to use. Also, should I go round or oval to save on clearance?

My future plans include an electric cut out for the side exhaust, before the mufflers. I've had cars with side exhaust before and the noise gets old quick as does the fumes coming back in the car at stop lights. So I figure making it "optional" is the best way for me to go? I purposely mounted my tail pipes up high so you can't see them from the back of the car with this modification in mind some day?

Yea I've thought about the cutoffs but I won't be able to run a side exhaust tip right? Don't the cutoffs require the flange type opening be the final section? Really want the aesthetics of a side tip

I used a kit from spintech and their mufflers. The kit is for a side exit mustang.

It bolted up to my tti x pipe just needed a little tweaking that a local shop charged me a couple hundred for. I'll try to find pics of mine

I don't see why you couldn't? I plan on making the tips/entire system out of stainless. The pipe just needs to mount up to the supplied flange.

Yea, you're right. I was thinking in terms of the manual cutoffs in which you'd have to unbolt the cap at the end of the flange. The electric systems with the flap that opens and closes would allow the use of a extension pipe with a tip. Something to think about I guess..

sledgehammer had a great sounding 3" system on his challenger.  I think the mufflers were right behind the headers, leaving enough room to finish in front of  the wheel.   Maybe someone save the pics or link to the vid for sound...  :dunno:

Daves73 I have a quick video but currently having a rough time uploading it to my photobucket account.  I can email it if you like.

Chryco phsyco the muffler I used has round inlet and over outlet. I wanted better ground clearance especially since my frame connectors prohibit me from really tucking the exhaust up there.
