Cuda rear valance
« on: January 19, 2014 - 10:49:05 PM »
The rear valance on my 72 Cuda vibrates and rattles like crazy.  Is something supposed to connect to this hole on the bottom of the rear valance?

Thanks,
Travis

Yes, there is a capyure nut and bolt that goes there.

No, not in 1971+ Cudas. :2cents: The extra supports that ran down behind the gas tank were a 70 only thing. :2thumbs:

Hmmm is there a way to retrofit it?  My only other thought is to try putting dynamat type material on the inside of the valance.

Not sure, but I think the 70 brackets will attach. Just not original.  :2cents:
If I cant fix it, it's broke

See the bracket in the top righthand corner of your picture held on by two 7/16 head bolts.....

You would have to replace those brackets with the 1970 style available in reproduction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VALANCE-PANEL-CROSSMEMBER-BRACKET-CUDA-E-BODY-70-AMD-BRACKET-REAR-BACK-/130939304228?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1970%7CModel%3ACuda&hash=item1e7c973924&vxp=mtr#ht_568wt_780

Is it normal for the rear valance to rattle? There must be something that can or should be done

Typically with all the correct hardware in place, they shouldn't rattle or need the extra support.

I see the original poster has an aftermarket gas tank so there's really no telling what the valence could be rattling against. :2cents:

It shouldn't rattle.  Make sure the bolts to the speed nuts on the bottom of the quarters are tight.  Also the ones along the top.  It might be rattling against the quarters since they don't always fit that well there.  Sometimes when you tighten the bolts, it pulls the steel tight only where the bolt is and the length of steel between the bolts fit is loose.
