WIW - 69 340

I have a 69 date coded 340 block hanging around.

Ii is completely disassembled, and has been for 15 years or so.

It has all the main caps, steel crank, con rods and stock pistons.

What would a fair asking price be for all the parts?

That much...wow...I would be happy with the low end.

Not sure what its out of, but I will check the Vin once I bring it home.

I have not had it magnafluxed, but it was running when I pulled it apart.  :roflsmiley:

But i didn't know 340's brought in those kind of $. If I was the first to reply on the Jas's question I would have said $400.

Oh fair enough. But in this case thats all i can say!

It was a running 340 i bought it with a parts car. I had every intention to rebuild it my self 15 years ago, so i pulled it apart to see what i had, then , well lets say life got in the way. So there it sat since. 

Now i think its time to unload it to someone that can use it.

I will check the vin once i get it here and if i can reunite it with the original car, that would be cool. But at the same time, if some one wants it for a fair price, its sold.

In my opinion....Selling engine blocks for good money is difficult unless you're willing to spend some money up front or at least stand behind the sale.

Here's why....You can't confirm the bore size, You can't confirm what it might take to clean up the bores and you can't confirm whether or not the block might be cracked.

If you pay now to have it hot tanked and magnafluxed, and properly measured, honed or even bored the buyer will know what he's getting exactly.

You will have a better shot getting bigger dollars for a fresh block, then for a mystery block.

If I take "your word" that it's good and I pay you $800 for it, turns out to be cracked or .060 over and useless.....will you give me my money back? Where would you like me to drop it ? literally :swear:

If it were me, block and crank would be $300 as a mystery block.

I had a mystery 383 in the last Barracuda I parted out....I had no idea what was inside, didn't have time to check, I just wanted rid of it fast. Listed it on KiJiJi for $150...Guy insisted on pulling a head off for inspection while it was still in the car...turned out to be a freshly rebuilt motor with zero miles...He gladly paid me $150... :banghead:

Cheap pair of vernier/dial calipers will determine bore size but I agree there are still problems that could be found later.

Agreed, but also bore taper is important. If you're not sure of what you're doing...

Some good points here. At the same time, its tough to find 340 block in this day and age, so there has to be some value there.

Jas, if you decide to check that block out, let me know. I know a good machinist in Guelph that'll do it reasonably for sure. Ian
