what and how are you painting new floorpans?
« on: January 23, 2014 - 07:52:46 PM »
been away for a while mostly been hunting but thats over now and back to the cuda!
decided to start removing the rust and bad patch job we did back in 99. I mostly have my rusty floorpan removed and i been wondering what has everyone been using to cover the new floorpans and inside the frame rails? i am not concerned with originality just want it to last! here is a few pics of what i started with. i will have the floor out tomorrow evening.

It looks like a lot of swiss cheese.  My trunk was the same way when I got my car.

When I had access to exposed frame rails, I cleaned them out as best I could, applied a metal treatment (something with phosphoric acid), and brushed on a couple of coats of 2 part epoxy paint.

:iagree:  Yep, epoxy is your friend AND you can/should also spray something like Krown rustproofing in and on the rails as well. I know the local Krown guy and mine's going to take a bath in it whenever I actually get the old gal done! Good luck and don't forget you can bond the floor onto the braces as well and seam seal everything!  :2cents:

I used 3M Rust Fighter inside the frame rails.

It's like an emulsified oil/wax mixture.

See the pictures I did using a undercoat gun.
Watch your PSI. Not too much needed.

Tip for it can be fabbed or bought from Eastwood.

 I'm guessing I need to scuff the EDP on the bottom of the pan and paint it. Brush on bed liner should be a good to use.

Car should be sand blasted and properly cleaned first. :2cents:
