« on: January 26, 2014 - 03:43:14 PM »

Haven't installed one yet, but I just bought one last week, great customer service so far. Said it will be four weeks before I see it.

Ok, thanks for the reply.  I'm ready to pull the trigger on a transmission order.  I know Jamie's 5speed is 12 months away before existing orders are cleared - and it's so pricey.  Keisler is out now, no timing from liberty gears on their revised kit.  American powertrain seem to be the best option at the moment.

Keep me posted anlauto!!

Keep us updated on how things go.

Did you buy the entire "kit"
What was the price if you don't mind?

Looks like floor modification is needed?

Hope all goes well....

The transmission plus the install kit was $3597.00. That does not include a bell housing/clutch or shifter handle.

The sales rep said to "plan on cutting the floor" however in some cases no modifications were needed.

Kit includes:
Streamlined TKO Main Case - For maximum tunnel clearance
ProShift3 Shifter Mechanism for E-body - Provides OE shift position
3.5" Seamless DOM Driveshaft - Race balanced, solid u-joints
Driveshaft Slip Yoke - Cryogenically hardened
Bolt-In Cross Member - Black powder coat, uses original bolt holes
Isolator Mount - Polyurethane
Speedometer Solution - Mechanical
Conversion Pilot Bearing - Works in manual and automatic cranks
Conversion Release Bearing - Compatible with OE clutch fork,
Weatherseal Reverse Light Harness,
Tunnel Patch and Template (small),
Hardware, Complete Instructions and Industry Leading Warranty,
24-Hour Customer First Technical Support

So do you purchase the bellhousing from the same company or are you on you own to find one?

I assume you're going to at least try and fit the transmission in without cutting first?

I've read some do fit but the driveline angle is way off unless you cut the floor...

Your customer's car was an original manual transmission?

Real curious to hear how it goes.

Looking at the picture on their site the Hurst does a better job a machining the tail shaft to allow more clearance and get the tranny closer to where it belongs.

Look at this thread http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=95284.0

Same tranny you are looking at I think. The pictures of the Hurst are mine.

I purchased the aluminum bell housing from them as well as a hydralic clutch set-up and a clutch/pressure plate set-up.
They offer a steel scatter shield as well.

Yes....I'm going to mock everything up before it goes for paint, going to try and raised up the tail stock to match the stock driveshaft location.

Customer's car is an original 383 4spd shaker 71 Challenger R/T. See Pictures here: http://www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com/1971FC7383.html

YES...Hurst is another option. They offered me quicker turn around time too.
For me it was a lot more $$$ shipping and the set-up over all cost a little more as well. :2cents:

P.S. Those are great pictures :2thumbs:

Too bad American doesn't machine the tranny the same way, it really adds some nice clearance.

OK
I remember when that car was for sale.

Saw it for sale at a few websites then on E-bay.

Nothing wrong with an FC7 1971 R/T Challenger

What is the SPD date on the car?

Interesting.

I'm trying to keep track of the SPD's on the purple 71 R/T's as it seems FC7 was a popular color for them.
I thought maybe they were all painted purple around the same time but the SPD's are all over the place...

My purple 4 speed is June 16th 1971, I haven't come across one built any later. :dunno:

The wife's is early December 1971 although her's is an original green 340 R/T.
