Interesting way to SAVE money...
« on: January 29, 2014 - 07:18:10 PM »
Okay, I've been restoring Mopars for 30+ years and I'm always looking for ways, or places to save money for either my customers or myself.

Recently in the last six months or so I've been buying a lot of aftermarket go-fast goodies that I don't normally buy.
When shopping around for the best on-line price I find myself coming back to Summit Racing time and time again, not only do they usually have the best price, but it's almost always 100% FREE shipping which can't be beat.

I average about $35K a year in reproduction parts. Finding the best price with equally good service has always been important to me.

So this afternoon I'm flipping through a new catalog that I received from Summit and found something that blew me away....They are now offering a wide range of "stock original" parts that we all use.
I found Metro Supersoft weatherstrip, TurboStart Restoration batteries, AMD sheet metal, Trim Parts carpet, etc...
ALL WITH FREE SHIPPING.....

Take a Group 27 Mopar battery for instance.....Most vendors list it at $239.99 PLUS $35 or so shipping....
Same battery at Summit Racing...$229.00 PLUS FREE shipping....

That's like a 20% savings on one item I buy all the time....

I checked a Challenger 1/4 panel....Some guy on EBay wanted $539.96 PLUS $175 SHIPPING :22yikes: Summit offers the same price but FREE shipping....

I never would have thought to add these guys to my "price comparison shopping list" :2thumbs:

Since I live in Georgia, and Summit has a store in McDonough, I have to pay sales tax on purchases from Summit. If I am not in a hurry, I usually buy from Jegs because most of the time, the prices are very close and they both offer free shipping. But from Jegs, I don't have to pay sales tax. So usually, Jegs is cheaper for me...  If I am in a hurry, I will ride down there and go ahead and pay the sales atx and get the part in my hand....   :working:

I'm looking at AMD fenders. On summit site they want an additional "$109 truck fee" for the fenders? "Estimated total" ?? is 1008.92  $450 each fender, plus shipping. That's not free shipping?

Oops....Sorry Brad you are right with those larger items....I never noticed the small print when I was checking prices.
I guess that's what happens when you ASSume things.....
I figure they were over $99 so they would be FREE shipping...I WAS WRONG :horse:

Just comparing a complete AMD glass set for a B Body....(yep work on those too)... :icon16:

Tamraz's on EBay with shipping is $1330.00
Summit Racing with shipping (Brad) is $1224.96

That's about a 10% savings... :dunno: Not as good as I thought before Brad went and burst my bubble, but it's still a savings... :smilielol: :2thumbs:

Free if you don't declare them at the border I guess? I get parts sent to a US addy. This evening I brought across $798 in Challenger and Ram truck parts and it cost me a little over $100 in sales tax at the border.
