Hi Guys,
I too am wanting to go with modern gauges but with as much of a retro look as possible.  I purchased the SpeedHut gauges and made 3d models of them and stock dash panel.
I then designed cones that would adapt the SpeedHut gauges to the approximate depth of the originals and had 3d printed samples made.
I posted this early progress in another thread but am just now getting my dash frame paint completed and my pad back from Just Dashes.
I have mounted the gauges so as to show you what they will look like. This could be done for the rally and non rally version without problem.

FYI, I am not a photographer (obviously) so I put a light on the dash so you could get a better picture of the gauges and shot  the picture with my cell phone. They look muccchhh better in person. lol

Let me  know what you think.

Cheers!

How are the gauges mounted? Some pictures of that would be great.

mickm ,

I like it, i was considering that but the large gauge is so big; You seemed to have overcome that obstacle. Next question is can we get some of those 3D printed cones made for us?

I modified the back of the original facia by removing the recess material. I cut it up into tiny pieces and soaked in acetone until a plastic paste was made.
I then clamped the 3d printed cones in place (they snapped perfectly over the lip left by the original rings) then I painted the acetone/plastic mixture and in a few minutes
the new cones were permanently fixed. Look just like it did with the original cups.
The SpeedHut gauges sit in the pods and secured by their own pressure ring.
With this setup there should no issue with strength or support required from behind since the  plastic panel is secure by 6 screws.
However on the Rally dash setup this could be different.

This is the view from the back with new gauges and without.

I would be interested in doing the 3d modeling for the Rally setup if someone wants to send me their gauges and plastic facia. If there is additional support required I will design that as well (I am an automotive engineer). I will get the support part made and I have a source for 3d printing but it is not where I got mine done. The total price for the first to step up and accept my office only pays shipping (both ways)  and actual cost to have 3d parts prints and support bracket cut but no engineering fees.

After this, I will offer this setup for sell for anyone else interested.  Any taker?

Cheers!

Nice job, but why not just use a 2-part epoxy?

Good question Katfish,
The two part epoxy would certainly bond the two together but the acetone/abs formula actually fuses them together basically making them one part.  Also, it is much easier, quicker and leaves a cleaner looking joint.

Hello all,
I finally have the dash together and wanted to show what the gauges look like now.

I am pleased with the look. Have given thought to adding woodgrain but will probably wait till it's in the car so it won't be as easy to
install, lol.

Cheers!
