No progress here on the dash. I kept taking the car apart, now it became a full resto. On a rotisserie now. So I'm now probably a year or more from getting to the dash.

One vision I had on a custom one I am making is to have the gauges mount in from the front using a turned spacer. Visualize a thick beveled washer as an adaptor. This would adapt the flat gauge face to the curved panel. I have an aluminum one I fabbed that mimics the factory that will eventually get done. Same idea may work for yours along with using a new would grain overlay.
Just a thought...

Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

I definitely like the look of the gauges recessed inside the tubes like stock.

Like this?

I love this. I can't tell if that's a stock rally cluster with Speed hut gauges, or if he made a custom cluster.

I am doing the same thing, but it is down the list of other things to do on the car. My vision is to build a infrastructure for the Speed Hut gauges so that the factory bezel goes in like factory.

I like that idea as well. but just curious, Will the 4inch gauge go inside and sit on the bezel as opposed to going inside the tube like you are talking about?

No it will not, the factory bezel goes to the outside edge of the glass but not to the outside of the outer trim ring of the gauge. Essentially you have to position the gauges center to the outer bezel so that when you look into them you are seeing the whole gauge. This is a complicated issue because the outer bezel have an angled tapered back side (goes downward) as well as each gauge hole has its own angle in reference to the drivers view point. Point is, you cannot just make a flat plate and put the gauges into it and have the outer bezel line up. My goal is to make individual plates for each gauge to get it to line up without altering the outer bezel.

Here is the gauges mounted on the outside. I didn't like it so we went inner with them.

Yes they are the 4" gauges. No clock available in the 4", but figuring the radio will have the clock. The smaller gauges fall through. I bought the dummy gauges to test fit before ordering the final set. They let me send back the dummy gauges for a credit against my order. If you look, I had SRT logo added to the center of the tach. I am contemplating sending it back and have the turn signal indicators added to the gauge. Then I could eliminate the holes in the bezel. since I have no structure behind the bezel, mounting the lamps will be a challenge. But if I do add them, the challenge will be to figure out how to fill the original holes.I plan on using a new bezel with carbon fiber where the woodgrain is. They don't make the bezel without the holes, so its a fill the hole problem that will not damage the new bezel tin, accept the overlay without any signs of the holes and hope it all stays on in the sun seeing that its a convertible.  :pullinghair:

I am in about the same position, I have new bezels and wood grain fascia, my plan is to get new wood grain overlays because the turn signal holes are not punched out completely and I think I can put something in the turn signal holes and leave the overlay sticker material.

I have talked to Detroit Muscle and they make the best stick on overlays out there. They said they could make it and not put any holes for the turn signals or brake if you wanted. They make them so its not a big deal. The best bezels come from Performance Car Graphics. Their new tins are second to none and they do a like screen printing on them. Not an overlay. They can do an overlay like carbon fiber. They take a not perfect new one and strip it, then use the overlay. I couldn't talk them into eliminating the T/S and Brake holes because the tins are made with the holes and apparently cannot be made without. probably a stamping die of some sort.

Lotaspin,
sorry if you posted this information already, but how did you end up mounting the gauges behind the tubes?

Lotaspin,

The bezel had to be machined flat on the backside, so the gauges could butt up to the bezel. Then he wired them. I wish there was a better way to attach them to the dash and put the bezel over, but this is what he did.. Here's a pic.
Thanks , Keith

My original idea was to use the stock frame with the meter housings, take the meters apart (not use their housing) only use the faceplates and electronics, and try to make them fit in there, but to do that I first had to buy all the gauges, destroy them, and there is no guarantee it will work, so I might just have to go with Redline when the time comes.
