Green top 1970 Challenger resto
« on: February 01, 2014 - 08:55:51 PM »
Hi guys my name is David I'm a Loadmaster on C130s in the USAF stationed in Cheyenne, WY. I got the Challenger from my aunt after my uncle died a few years back. It's a big block car but only a383 2bbl car. I plan on doing a 440 R/T clone, but keeping the original colors and interior. From the factory it came white with a green top and green interior. I've never seen one before, so I can't wait to get it finished and cruise her around.

She had some cancer in the filler deck and the trunk is shot, but for the most part that's the worst of it. I went ahead and replaced the filler deck while I was at my Dad's in AZ.

In and primed!!

I was able to snag an original R/T hood for her too!

From the factory she came with a column shift and I want the console. I was able to get one from a buddy and hood inserts for a great price! I know the console isn't a 70 model, but I couldn't turn it down!!

I was also able to snag the shifter assembly and insert too.

Sounds like a fun project.  I have a 70 SE with a 383 2 BBL.  Plan on keeping it original.  Mine is gold with green vinyl top and green interior.

Look forward to your progress.

Oh, and thank you for your service.

Looks like a good project!

Thanks for you service (from a Canadian)

I think that will look pretty cool, white with green interior and top!

Do you have the story behind the stripes?

I really love your car and its original colour combo and that you are going back to that :jumping: Any chance that you could share the fender tag details with use please, interested to know what other options your Challenger came with too :clapping:
On a side note, you can remove the ash tray from the rear of the 71 console and cut the same dimension rectangular hole the same as a 1970 console, they have the same base and would look correct as a 1970 console, except for the extra hole in the top plate, but that would not be a big deal to get that 1970 look you are after. :2thumbs:

OH yeah Dave, Welcome to the sight.

Thanks guys!! I would love to see pictures of your gold challenger Spam! I'll have to dig up a picture of the tag. As far as I know the tag was removed years ago
my dad and his mopar guru friend went through the car and had a fender tag made for my uncle before he died. I don't really know anything about the stripes other
than they were applied later on. Sorry I wish I knew more....

Thanks.

Here's a site where you can plug the fender tag codes in, and get a run down of how the car was equipped.

http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php

Enter your vin first, starts with JH23 on the bottom line.

Then on the next screen, start entering the codes on the second row of blanks (inset for the screws).

I've also got some suspension stuff done, I threw it in there for now. All redone with moog bushings. I'm going to pull it all out and clean up the bottom. Also some random pictures of the engine pulled.

Numbers matching engine, not going back in for now, but I am keeping it to the side.

Here the worst of the body damage. Looks like someone went cray with a dent puller!!
