dirt or rust in tank

So is it common for rust to be in the gas tank. When starting the car its been dry in carb and in fuel filter. No leaks on carb,new pump last year so I thinking its the gas tank. Heard on screen getting plugged ,car will run hard start but will miss or die out every now and then. Chally ran fine last year ,start the car regularly, plugs look good. 318 2 barrel carb. Thanks guys and ladies

Keep tank full, put in stabil with STP Gas treatment. That helps keep water condensation out.

If your tank is old, probably it's time to replace.

dont think gas is bad but will try that first. It happened last summer once thats when I put the new fuel pump on. Thanks Topcat

could be a lot of things , fuel pump could be weak , could be rust in the carb that got through the filter , even the lines could be rusty inside

As someone that inherited a multitude of fuel related problems with my car, I would suggest you start with a mechanical fuel pressure gauge between the fuel filter and carb. If you have 6 PSI at start up, and it takes a dive after a few miles of driving, then we are onto something further up the line for the problem.

If you have a steady 6 PSI, then the problem is the carb, or possibly electrical.

These cars are old and never were stored with full fuel tanks like they should be. I simply replaced my tank and all the lines as I use my car for trips. Same with brakes. Even though it is a 600hp car I simply drive it like it is my daily driver and no issues ( except for the time I did not believe my fuel gauge when it said 'E')  :roflsmiley:

I replaced mine too, the old one literally had about an 1" of rust and crap in the bottom of it.
Funny I ran mine out of gas 2x now those fuel gauges are not that accurate !  :lol:
