RALLYE RED Paint Question
« on: February 05, 2014 - 05:54:58 PM »
My paint guy painted the engine compartment of my 73 Barracuda with Rallye Red to show me what it would look like before painting the entire body. (Original color was very faded rallye red). I hated it! It looked red but in different light, it looked orange. I told him to hold off and we would pick something else; I want it to look RED in all light, all the time.  Any suggestions? Anyone else have this situation? We are going with base coat/clear coat; not the original single stage stuff. I remember new cars from the 70s and the paint did not last very long before turning chalky and dull. Anyway, if you have any suggestions please let me know. I was thinking of current, Challenger Red.
 Thanks.

Bought new in '71; I wanted the Challenger but they were $2850; too much $ so I got the 318, 3 speed on the floor, Twister Duster for $2100.

You could look at the Viper Red, it is probably the same as the New Challenger Red anyway. :2thumbs:

Yeah, I like that color; I will check with the paint shop to see if they are the same. I find color chips on the net to be impossible to tell exactly what shade they are. At least on my mac screen.

Take a look at PR4 Flame RED
FE5 Mixes are all over the place on color match.
I have done spray outs on DBU,DBC OMNI,  OMNI PLUS and the color is different in all cases.
Omni is the closest match to original on the car I tested.
But just the car I tested so be aware.

Viper red; that looks good, and red. thanks. I will check out flame red too; is that a Mopar color?  Ok I just checked it out and it is a Chrysler color; seems to be on Jeeps too. It is red, red, which is what I want; I have looked at so many red paint chips that I am blind and they are all starting to look the same.

Another vote for Viper Red. Painted my buddies Duster that color and I loved it!

That Peacock red looks orange-ish, which is what I am trying to avoid. I went to Sherman Williams today and they showed me the new Challenger, Tor Red, which looks very red and nice.  Nothing like the 1970s Tor Red, which was Hemi Orange. Same  name, totally different color.
