Were you a Speed Racer fan back in the 70's?
« on: February 07, 2014 - 09:47:48 PM »
Today I was explaining to one of my younger generation co workers about the Speed Racer series back in the 70's.
I used to watch speed Racer everyday when I was growing up.

When I first mentioned Speed Racer to him; he brought up about the movie that came out a few years ago.

I said "Naaa, not that." The old ones that were cartoons.

So we watched the one where they un bury the mysterious GRX engine.

He was rollin on the ground.
Made a new fan. I got a kick seeing it again too.

One of my favorite episodes. Part 1 of 2.

Yep.  I loved that show.  Watched it all the time.

Trixie was kinda cute too.

But the Mach 5 with all its gizmos was the best.  I still want a set of saw blades and jacks.  I think that would cut my commute time in half.

Yes, speed racer was a favorite Saturday morning cartoon.

Here he comes
Here comes Speed Racer
He's a demon on wheels
He's a demon and he's gonna be chasin' after someone.

He's gainin' on you so you better look alive.
He's busy revvin' up a powerful Mach 5.

And when the odds are against him
And there's dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer
Will see it through.

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer, Go!

He's off and flyin' as he guns the car around the track
He's jammin' down the pedal like he's never comin' back
Adventure's waitin' just ahead.

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer, Go!

Not sure why since I've been into cars since the original Hot Wheels came out (yes I was a kid then), but I never watched Speed Racer.  Johny Quest, definitely.  Clutch Cargo, reluctantly.  The original Flash Gordon on at 6:00 am Saturday morning, oh hell yeah!  But I don't remember Speed Racer even being on the few channels in Atlanta back then.  I have watched a few episodes since then, I would have liked them as a kid for sure.

I always wished the monkey and the little kid would immolate each-other to make the show better.  Oh well.

The Mach 5 was a cool car, but the stupid kid and monkey kept fowling up everything.

Yes even as a kid I was intolerant of stupid kids.  Get off my lawn.

Yeah I watched.

Loved the buttons on the steering wheel that let the Mach 5 do all sort of neat stuff.

Didn't we find out that his big rival, racer X, was his long lost big brother?? My memory is fading on this, so anyone else know?
