    paint interior panels

    My interior panels need to be freshened up. Most guys on here say to use SEM Landou Black. I don't want them to be flat or glossy so i'm hoping this paint will give me a factory original looking finish. How many cans will it take to do all six panels plus the center console?

    Are the panels black now ? If so, most likely 2-3 cans.
    If they're any other colour, you can double that.

    Yes they are black now. The panels are original and have never been painted but they are a little faded and not as black as they should be. Does the SEM paint need some kind of bonding agent sprayed on first? Thanks for the help.

    Clean, clean, clean and clean. When you think they are clean enough....clean again. Use SEM adhesion promoter per the directions on the can. Then the Landau black.

    They make cleaners but I didn't use them.

    Soap/water...then simple green...then mineral spirits...finally a wax/grease remover. Stuff I had on hand.

    I did my lower dash trim panel just today. Well, it's the panel that was in my car but is not correct as per build sheet so I may screw it up. :lol:

    Just like burdar I cleaned it with water and simple green and a towel (no scuff pad), then used SEM Plastic & Leather Prep 2-3 times and just now one layer of SEM Landau Black. See the pic, the lower part is not even 1 hour after painting. It actually looks glossier on the photo because this is indoor lighting. I'm surprised by how "original" it looks, the color is just how it's supposed to be.

    I used a scuff pad and simple green on the other trim part and that part now is veeeery faded so once you scuff them you definitely need to paint them.

    Hmm, interesting, just compared the newly painted trim part (top left) to the unpainted one (thanks Hemiken :clapping: ).

    The unpainted one—at least I didn't paint it—is glossier and actually pretty nice. Is this how it's supposed to look? Have people applied some finish over SEM Landau Black?

    Thanks for posting that Padawan :2thumbs: That 8 track piece i sold you was mint and perfect colouring and the best thing you could have used an as example to compare against buddy. Landau Black is pretty close, but the shine is not their, what i would suggest is to lay down two coats of your Landau Black when applying the colour- after all the prep work of course, and just before the Landau tacks off, i would apply one lite coat of clear over the Landau to give it that extra little bit of shine it needs. So make sure you spray wet on wet to get the best results, remember in this case that less is more, do not over do the clear coat. Does SEM offer a spray bomb in Clear in America ? :popcorn:

    I did my Burnt orange Gr Cpe panels with paint from Herb's Parts.
    It is not a paint it is a dye. Apply coats.  You do not want to damage the texture of the panels...

    Yes hemiken, that part is superb!! I'll go out and buy some clear and add a second layer of SEM Landau plus the clear on wet. The SEM bomb releases quite the amount of paint once pressed, so you really need to keep the distance and do a quick sweep. Quite tricky to get the edges done without putting too much paint on...

    If that doesn't come close to the original piece I'll give Herb a call, thanks AARuFAST!

    Will take me a while to get this done, though...  :-[
