Galen was at the Mopar Southern Nationals a few years ago and was walking around with a small entourage looking at cars. He saw my '69 Barracuda and walked over to it and started looking at the VIN number. He took a small notepad out and started writing the VIN number down on MY car. I knew exactly who he was and I walked up to him and asked him what he was doing. He said he was going to write down my VIN and take it with him, but he wouldn't tell me why he wanted it.  I told him to move along and stop writing because the VIN number on my car was not his business. He asked if I knew who he was and I said yes I did, but I was not looking to utilize his services and he should just move along. He mumbled something and left. He seemed like a jerk to me. Just sayin'..... :2cents:

I am sure i have some of these same colour combinations in my files, but definetly none with V02 painted roof. It is a unique car, any V02 car is rare in its own right. :2thumbs:

Lets not turn this into a Galen bashing thread,  :horse: he had his place in our hobby, his "little white books" provide an invaluable service to us all.

For every positive comment there may be two negative, and that's most likely why he doesn't offer his services any more :2cents:

What's really "funny" is how some people are quick to ridicule the descriptions given by others when they are guilty of the same thing.  So what is worse?  Having a harmless nickname for a vehicle or saying that scruffy body work represents "OE type standards"?  If you can get past the incorrect & manipulated paint job in the picture below, you will notice the damaged metal (large rust pits) that was ignored and painted over during the modification of the vehicle.  I'm quite sure that Chrysler never manufactured a car with rust pits in the floor pans when they were new.   With the "nicknames" that have been mentioned here, I thought this vehicle might have been called the April Fools Challenger.

It's not ridiculing his description, it's correcting his incorrect statement. Anyone that's talked cars with another person knows how rampant incorrect statements are when it comes to cars.

The point is that, while someone can nickname their car anything they want, Chrysler never sold a "Halloween Edition" or "Penguin Edition" or "Vanishing Point Edition" or any of these other nicknames.

It's similar to how owners of '77 (and even '78-'81) black and gold Trans Ams call them "Bandit Edition" even though Pontiac never called them that or used the word Bandit.

Actually, I think Year One sells the "bandit" car now as a whole car licensed through GM.

It's such a funny double-edged sword....

Everybody wants information about their type of vehicles, like how many were made with this colour, or that motor....

...yet when Galen appoints himself to gather this information, build a registry like no other, and start a invaluable database on cars known to exists, people get upset when he tries to take their car's info down for free, when in turn he charges for that complied info. :dunno:

I don't know for sure if he's out of business as I stated before, I just know his web site says "Effective today, we are not accepting any new fender tag or broadcast sheet decoding orders, Registry letters requests, or Visual Inspection and or appraisals requests due to the backlog we that we currently have. I would think that if he is back logged, he would employ another person for this service.
Sure hope he is not done with the hobby.

Alan,

I think the whole issue with Galen was that he did not ask permission of the owner of the car to obtain the info.  Im sure the owner might have let Galen do it if he was asked first, rather than just go car to car taking pics of the VIN, fender tag, etc only to charge the person later for finding out info pertaining to his car.   I understand that it takes time and money to compile a registry, but to charge a crazy amount of money like he was only to have someone wait what seems like forever to get the info back is just down right ludicrous.  Take Barry on here for instance, he compiles a registry and just asks for donations to keep the site going.  Even Ola with the convertible registry doesn't ask for much and I think is a free service.

Barry rocks, I didn't get the information I wanted but he pointed me in the right direction anyway.

Just an all around great guy.

I would say that the dealerships could name a car whatever they wanted to help sell it. To give it a theme based on the color combination.  Take the cuda in question, they could have had "Halloween Cuda" written on the windsheild with fancy graphics with orange window paint. Just a thought.
