Topcat Hemi
« on: April 11, 2005 - 10:29:41 PM »
Here is the real deal!! No BS!! A very good friend of mine that I have known for many years has a 426 Hemi engine for sale. He bought a race boat back around 7 or 8 years ago for 2 grand. Then he rebuilt it He is unable to walk now due to a motorcycle accident. He has decided to sell his 426 Hemi out of his boat separately. He wants only 5 grand for it. He fired it up for the first time last yr and chewed a lobe on the cam during break in. He says it only has 4 hours on the engine.  It is a 71 block, heads, intake manifold, and carbs. It also has the black wrinkle vavle covers. I'm taking pics tomorrow of it. This is a really, really bad time for this to come into my life right now as I am leaving for Hawaii this Friday. On top of that, then Carlisle. NO! don't even think I will tell you where he is.I have a grand down payment already. Need to see inside of course. Need numbers off the block too. Appartently, he shaved off the side blk nos. in fear that the original owner would try to wrestle it back from him He isn't a dishonest guy. he is very honest of a person IMO. Still, wondering what his logic was in shaving off the side blk numbers!! So, I'm about to start shifting $ to buy this. I know that if I don't buy this, that I might need a bullet put in my head for procrastinating.  I would love to hear all your opinions , since my GF isn't convinced that I am doing the right thing. Thank you for your ideas.

Sounds like a deal I'd have a hard time passing up and, if I did, I'd probably kick myself for the rest of my life!  Hope it works out for ya TC!

Just in case.....  play it safe !
Dont sell that 340 until the Hemi is in your car and running for a few weeks !

Show her some of the auctions for the Cuda and Challenger Hemi replications (notice I didnt say clone) that ought to get her woozy for the idea (in a good way)

top..........just wondered if you have made that decision yet???? I  feel you'd be a fool not to, besides that i was a girlfriend once to a guy who owned a car..........won't mention what car it was, anyways i asked him to get rid of it because he was going to fix it up and kept not doing anything with it but let it sit in the yard, and he loved that type of car, anyhow we ended up splitting up and to this day i feel kinda bad asking him to do such a thing then us not working out....you cannot go by instincts of a woman who is not into cars in the first place. Go for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a Great Deal , if i came across a deal like that you bet i'd not pass it up.  :iagree:

Sounds good.............and since the engine is in boat perhaps your friend can confirm something about marine engines such as this. I almost bought a marine engine (426 Hemi of course) about six years ago and I was told that it would be a lot added work and money to make it work in a car, supposedly the marine engines run in what we would consider reverse order, not only cranking direction but fireing order etc. I have no idea about this but the whole thing just was too much of a $$$$$$$$ thing at the time. Hope it all works out.

I'm leaving  here shortly to take pics of it. Need to get a notarized  agreement w/him to insure that he won't sell it while I'm away for the next couple weeks. Also, I called  up Plum6Pak last night. He gave me some  heads up on where to look for any additional number stampings on the outside. Being that it still sitting in the boat, it'll limit me to what I can see. BTW, she has calmed  down about my purchase since last night. So for as of now, everything is a go.I hope it isn't locked up. i will try to wrench it over if I can reach between the engine and the boat frame. I feel confident that it will turn over since it only has 4 hours on it.
