Shift Boot Question
« on: February 15, 2014 - 02:54:24 PM »
Looking at the Classic Industries website, they list two different 4 spd shifter boots; one for cars with consoles and one for cars without consoles.  Two questions;
1) was there really any difference between the boots for console and non-console cars?
2) if so, what was the difference?

That's what I thought as well  It's interesting though because they actually have two different prices and they use different photos for them in the ads.  I sent a question asking them to explain the difference.

No, don't think either comes with the chrome trim, that's sold separately.

Could it be that one is for 4 speeds and one is for the 3 speeds?  Three speeds didn't get the pistol grip so they would have had a different boot...

Didn't the 3 speeds have a round shifter handle base?  These both look like 4 spd boots to me plus they both say "Hurst Pistol-Grip shifter-equipped".

Anyhow, the answer I got back from Classic Industries was just a quote of exactly what their ad says.  Their tech support people seem very friendly and always provide a response,  but from the questions I've ask, it doesn't seem like the have a clue about the products they sell.  There's a "Ask A Tech" tab on every product page but the tech support people can't tell you anything other than what's already printed in the ad.

When I pressed for specific differences in their two products here's what I got back:

"The non console boot is mounted to the floor and the console boot is mounted to the console. In order to have the top of each boot in the same spot along the shift arm, the non console boot is taller to accommodate for the height of the center console."
:faint:  :clueless:

I must say that I've had a couple additional emails with the tech support guy and he really is trying to determine why there is a difference between those boots they sell.  I would certainly give him an A for the effort.
