rear window regulators
« on: February 17, 2014 - 12:41:52 AM »
Is there an adjustment for the crank in and out depth? My driver side crank sticks out about 3/8" from the panel. All other cranks look fine. Nice and tight. The panel is in good shape, not warped or anything. Not caved in. Thanks.

You have a mixture of Cuda and Challenger regulators. The Challenger ones are about 3/8 longer :2cents:

Does that mean that the windows themselves are exactly the same?

But the regulators are different?

Are the set ups different for the a93's?

You lost me on that one.... :dunno:

A93's don't have rear 1/4 window regulators, they have "fixed" 1/4 glass.

The glass between Cuda and Challenger is totally different, as is the regulator itself. The rest of the internal parts are shared between the two. :2cents:

This is in a 1972 Challenger Rallye hardtop. It was "resto-modified" by a local vo-tech college (read - chevy, this was their first Mopar). My first thoughts initially were that they had swapped in a 'Cuda regulator for some reason. But that would be the exact opposite of what you are saying? All other cranks sit flush. This one is way out there.   :clueless: I am having to be MacGuyver here on everything on this car. Figuring out what they did, and why, and trying to get it back to what at least is somewhat correct.

The difference is greater then I first thought....

Here is a Cuda rear window regulator taken from a 1970 AAR:

Here is a Challenger rear window regulator taken from a 1971 Challenger R/T.

I'm assuming all 1970-74's are the same for each model.

Thank you for the pics! I'll have to take the panel off and have a look.

There is a cone shaped spring that goes on the regulator shaft under the rear panels that holds them out it sounds like you are missing one of them. Also the rear panels on a Challenger take a medium sized thickness spacer under the window crank handle and the front door panels take a thinner one while the Cuda takes a very thick spacer under the rear panel cranks
