Carpet question
« on: February 19, 2014 - 09:20:48 PM »
Is this carpet correct?  Received my ACC carpet today for my '70 'Cuda and it's split down the middle.  I was pretty sure that the front and rear sections went from side to side and that the front overlapped the rear.  I took a picture of my old original rear section and it goes from side to side.  ('Couldn't find the front seat sections)
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda.  Matching numbers 440 U Code, 4 speed pistol grip, Rallye dash, AM 8 Track, Shaker hood, 15 inch rallye wheels, Dana 60 4.10, Super Track Pak.  One of 134 - 440 "U" coupes codes built in 1970 and one of 100 - 440 Super Track Paks built in 1970.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Run away from that and get your money back.

The roped stiched edge runs halfway across the middle on the front half.

Does yours have that?

The heel pad sure looks like it's in the wrong position.

Do I feel like a moron or what!? :clueless:  :banghead:  I guess I've been sniffing too many paint fumes this week.  Anlauto, when I first read your post about being a joke, I said to myself, no I'm dead serious, this isn't a joke, I got the wrong carpet. Then when Top Cat mentioned the roped stitched edge, and cudaman mentioned the heel pad, it got me thinking  :thinkerg: so I put my shoes back on and went back in the shop and turned the carpet 90* like Anlauto suggested.  For some reason I thought the heel pad should be in the position shown in pic #1 below and also there was so much extra carpet on each side, when turned correctly, I just assumed it went the other way and that I had been shipped the carpet for a different car.  What a dope!
Hopefully, I won't make too many more stupid moves like this one.  Thanks CC community for setting me straight!    :2thumbs:

I put my carpet in last Summer.

Since then, it settled into contours of the floor much better I noticed recently.

They like heat and time to settle it seems to me.

I think situations like this benefit us all. Your not stupid, just hitting challenges on something we all are learning about every day.
So when I go to put my carpet in hopefully this summer, this thread will help me to placing the carpet in the correct way. I probably would have done the same thing.
We all learn from each other.

I wasn't trying to sound disrespectful, but the answer seemed so obvious to me that as I was typing my answer I thought maybe I was just falling for a joke....Maybe you were just joking around.... :smilielol:
Those carpets do include a lot of extra material... :2cents:

One pointer here is to pull the carpet forward enough so that your feet are on the vinyl portion when you sit in the car. The vinyl portion should be just below the pedals, when you do this the 4 speed hump portion lines up as well.

Yes another thing I learned the hard way...

I have a new carpet sitting in a box in my basement which I hope to put into my car in the next month or so.   I'm glad you asked the question because now I have a fresh thread to reference when the time comes for installation.   I use the "show unread posts" option almost daily to learn from all of you in C-C.com.   Rookies like me need all the help I can get.

Thanks HP.  I was wondering about the placement of the vinyl foot pad.   :2thumbs:
Dakota, I'm an old timer on the forum but still a rookie with several issues, like this one.  I also learn from reading the un-read posts.  I have bookmarked so much stuff from those posts for future reference it's amazing I haven't used all my bookmarks up.   :smilielol:
