Door Panels?
« on: April 13, 2005 - 02:44:38 AM »
Where did you get your ones from? REV? Plum? 4C? MEK? April? Anyone? :dontknow:

Mine are still blue and not in the greatest of condition and I'm thinking I will buy some new ones, but where?
Most repo parts are sh!t and the fit is usually waaaaay off, so door panels would be a hard thing for the repo factorys to even get close to fitting........or am I wrong? I hope so because finding EXCELLENT condition ones on eBay is near impossible.  :-\ :P

I would probably go through YO for my panels, if I find out someone else has and they were good, fit wise and correctness.

I am going to get both the front and rear panels (Pairs). Saves money, time and will last longer than dye.

Opinons, testimonies, pointers or links?

Thanks,

Hi,
I have been thru the ringer on the door panel issue, and will post some pics for you to see.
Mine were from YO but made by dashtop.
It has been the most frustrating part of the restoration.
I ordered door panels, (front and rear), Kick Panels, Pillar moldings etc, all made by dashtop, all fit like absolute garbage.
My pictures will show what I am talking about., will try and get for you today.

Sorry NZ.  We used our original SE panels...they were in decent shape for 30+ years old.  Good luck!  I haven't heard anyone singing any companies praises about panels lately.

NZ,
I got mine from someone who said he bought them from Year One. They look good, the fit isn't bad at all. My only complain is they feel like hard plastic, as apposed to the softer kind of flexible plastic the originals were made of. My originals had cracks that I didn't want to deal with.

Thanks MEK.  ;) :D Glad to hear it.

There not "cheap" felling are they? You know like you look at them and think.....huh, crap.  ::) :(

Or do they look exactly like the originals once in place?

Thats the question I was suppose to ask when I started this thread, Legendary Interiors makes them for YearOne don't they?  :D

They have a reptuable name and a high grand of quality.  :D

Hi NZ,
Here is the complete Poopy Pants comments I sent to YO.
Use it and look at my pictures and you will ahve a better idea:
snip>++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Then we were struggling on where to order our interior parts. Other Mopar
enthisiasts were promoting Legendary, others Year One. I called Legendary and
they were considerably less money than Year One.
But looking to get the same good experience I had enjoyed in the past with other
Year One orders, I ordered from your folks the following:

-Front and Rear Interior Door panels.
-Front lower Kickpanels.
-Windshield Post moldings.

We were stressed to find we had to wait 10-12 weeks for the panels, but it had
been five years already so a few more weeks big deal.
Well the Door Panels showed up and they were damaged. Not in shipping but
warehouse, the boxes were perfect.
So we called year one (Nate?) and explained the problem, they said no problem we
will send another set, assure they are good before you send the old ones back.

So another long period goes buy and the second set shows up, damaged as well.
Again warehouse damage. the boxes were perfect. I was choked.

We called again and he said well we will send another set.

Well they arrived and they to were damaged.

We called Nate again and his statement was "this is costing us far to much money
sending you panels" You will have to either pack all of it up and send it back
for a full refund, or get them repaired and we will reimburse you.

We test fit these panels and they are a Joke.
-Screw holes do not line up.
-the bottom door clip locations some are right and then they get all out of
order.
-When the innter door handle is on, you can not opne the doors, it hits the
panels, I have taken digital photos of this, and I know from the Mopar
newsgroups and forums I am not the only one with poor fit.
-No remote mirror cut out.

A heat gun has to be used to heat the panel and stretch it at the bottom rear of
the door to get it ot go over the actual door.

These are a substandard product period.

The rear door panels had their own disapointment the biggest being that you have
to cut the opening in the panel for the seat belts to go through as well as the
slit all the way up, to get a seat belt in there, again none of the predrilled
hols line up due to the very poor fit.
The MFR of these panels should scribe, or provide a template on where to cut.
And Year One should indicate on their advertisement of this product that this
cutting is required.

I will tell you right now that the poor fit was consistent on all three sets of
panels we had here.

We picked the best pieces and got them installed in the car, after a lot of
cutting and heating etc. The panles are of a much thicker material, and the
faces of the panels rub and have removed the finish where the doors open and
close.

This car is not a backyard restoration, everything is aligned correctly, and the
body shop, and Color-Glo Canada have all shook there heads when looking over
this situation.

It is going to cost us an estimated $400.00 from Color Glo Canada to do final
fitting, hating, crack repair from shipping etc to get these panels to an
acceptable state.

We have waited so long on this that to send all of this back to you and try with
a different vendor is not in our interest, we will try and make the best of a
crappy situation.

The kick panels, and the windshiled pillar moldings etc are another joke in
themselves. I am not being rude, I am being honest.
The little legs on the the top of the kick panel, or the leg on the bottom of
the windshield pillar molding do not line up to make a complete finished piece.
And the pillare moldings I have had to file and grind and file and grind a lot
of material off to even get close to the originals so they fit.

I have digital photos of all of this, showing the quality of the car, and the
lack of quality of the repro parts and would love for you to see them so I need
to know where to send them.

There are supposed to be two mfr's dashtop (the ones I got) and another that escapes me right now.
I have not heard anything back yet.

I say talk to somebody here that you trust and have them buy you a good set out at carlisle this year and ship them to you.  I got a full set for under 200.  3 were in very good shape and one rear one was baked a little bit in the back, but good enough for my purposes.

Although that is a great idea and one that escaped my mind, my car "should" be complete by then.  ;) :grinyes:
