Encountered a killer tire deal and need answers please
« on: March 04, 2014 - 09:05:29 PM »
OK discount tire direct through EBAY is having $100 dollars off $400+ total purchases. so i had a heart attack when i calculated my purchase.

I need to know before i order the tires if this combo will work on a stock suspension 73 cuda e body

Nitto 555 275/40/r17 for the rears and nitto 555 245/45/17 for the front with summit legend rims i would order at a later date size on rims would be 17inchx9 with 5 inch backspace for rears and 17x8inch with 4.5 inch backspace for fronts.

for those interested if i buy those tires with the 100 dollar off it works out to $422 dollars total and you dont have tax and did i mention FREE SHIPPING! thats $105.50 a tire!!

i NEED to know if this will work! i know one member here has those same rims but i am unsure of the sizes and tires hes got. PLEASE HELP :droolingbounce:

the tire widths sound right not sure about the height of the tires or the  backspacing on the rims

25.7" tall for the rears (same for the front)...seems a bit short to me but that may be a question of taste?  :)

I recommend the same size f/r... 275-40-17 and 17x9... it will work a-ok.

now there is an idea that way i can rotate them if i needed but your sure that on Completely STOCKKKK front and rear suspension that these tires will work? also what backspace would be needed for both front and rear?

275/40/17's will work just fine on all 4 corners, rims would be 17x9's with 5" backspace with the Legends. That's exactly the same combo I run.

Tire is a little short, but not horrible. I've posted this a million times, but this is my Challenger with 275/40/17's all the way around on 17x9, 5" backspace Summit Legends.

In the front with the 275's I did need some additional camber to keep my tire from rubbing my passenger fender when going in and out of parking lot driveways and such with the wheels turned. I'm at -.9*'s and have no rubbing now. But I also sit pretty low, a little extra ride height and it wouldn't have been an issue. Also, I never had any issues with rubbing on the driver's side, so some cars may not need much of anything. I did remove the mid-fender braces on the backside of the fender, but again, my car sits pretty low. Only 3.5" to the header flanges.

I have a B body rear with Dr Diff 1" offset hangers and brackets, but I have a ton of space. The 17x9" with 5" backspace should work with the stock e body 8 3/4 and spring locations. It'll be tight, as that's about as big as you can go without offsets, but it should be fine.

The ride is good. It's definitely not plush, but it's precise, not harsh. The tires aren't the biggest part of that though. The car has 1.12" torsion bars and XHD rear springs, so that's most of the ride. The biggest deal with the ride right now is the the KYB shocks, which makes the ride worse than it would be with a set of shocks that match the big torsion bars better.

A lot of times I think people blame a harsh ride completely on low profile tires, when really the cause has more to do with unmatched suspension components. The tires are part of that, but everything has to work as a system.

The 285/40/17 fit the rear as well and provide a nice little bulge on the sidewall.  My rear back spacing is 5" on my Challenger
