When did Politcal posts become the norm around here?

I have to say that it affects how often I check in. It makes me sick to see the site littered with Gun Control talk.

I wonder how the site sponsors feel about their name being above all of this as if they support an opinion.

Since the Current Events section was added to the forum, it has contributed right around 11% of all posts on the forum. That leaves 89% as the original forum subject matter being discussed. I would tend to agree with you if the site was truly littered with Gun Control talk, but it isn't. The actual Gun Control topic number of posts is less 1.7% of all total posts on the site during the period since that topic was raised. That is nowhere near enough posts to be considered "The Norm" here as was stated in this thread title. That is pretty insignificant when considered in the overall forum.

Just like the "sticky" information in the Current Events section clearly states  --  if you don't want to participate in the current events subject matter  --  don't go in there.   

BTW I am getting 10 to 1 PM's in favor of the new section.

I don't know if it's possible, but it would be helpful for a member to set an option to ignore a topic or a category.  I've looked for that feature but haven't found it.

Usually, discussions are pretty civil.  Heck, I've seen more hair fly on "restoration" threads.

This is one of the more tame auto forums on the web, I feel relatively certain that sponsors have no problem with individual members voicing their personal opinions about current events as long as it doesn't get nasty. And as long as it doesn't drag them into the fray. Also, the current events forum has no option for a "Cuda-Challenger" management's opinion. The opinions shared are those of individuals and so far, everyone has done a great job of voicing their opinions and allowing others to voice theirs without bashing. That is how this section was envisioned to operate with this great group of folks here.

I come to this forum for ebody stuff. If I wanted politics, I would go to a more politically oriented forum.
So while every forum has their politics, I hope it doesn't get to be too much here.
You already hear/see politics on the TV, the news, the work place, the restaurants, just about every social place. It is nice to get away from it... if there ever was such a place.
Even though I know I don't have to read the topics, I still have to sort or see/bypass them as mentioned above.
IMHO, politics is litter to a ebody forum.
Ebody stuff, that's all I care about here.

I don't know where you are getting the "one of the more tame forums" as I belong to a few and none of them go political. Not everyone in the car hobby is into guns or against the current President.

I guess I'll be in the minority in saying that it doesn't bother me one bit.  It is just a handful of topics, and I for one just gloss right over them.  I guess I'm confused why it's such a concern.  It's not like you have to read them to continue on to the next topic.  Like OldSchool said, this is about the tamest message board I have ever been on.  People like to give their opinions on topic, and there is not much in the way of personal attacks.

Current events don't always need to be political, they can be about current events in the news that are happy or sad....funny stuff etc....
I think when someone posts questions about Government, or laws etc...you're just asking for trouble, because there are so many different opinions in the world, and everybody is entitled to their own. It's the people who can't accept the opinions of others that start the trouble.

The one complaint I've heard from a friend, is that this site is too confusing....there's like 50 different areas to post in...it gets confusing at times.

I don't know if we really needed a new area for "current events" or if they could just be discussed in a general section.

I don't really care either way...I only read the stuff I want to read and enjoy responding when I can.

I would like to have the options to op out of certain topics. Kinda a member specific tab that would allow me to only load the topics I want.

I see no problem either.  When you see Current Events next to the topic, you can gloss right over it.  Can we all agree to disagree that when it comes to Politics, no one is right!

  I come here for the car and car related topics, it takes too long to go through each post at times, and these non car related threads just take up room and precious time I feel.
