I agree!!

Please, keep chiming in so I know where not to shop.

I of course do not click on something that I do not want to read; but every time I see a title that says "Gun rights, taking your guns away!" next to an interesting topic, I can't help but picture Rush Limbaugh or some Fox News nut screaming at the TV. It's a very unpleasant image.

:iagree:

I suppose I will keep going elsewhere and rarely check in.

I don't know where you are getting the "one of the more tame forums" as I belong to a few and none of them go political. Not everyone in the car hobby is into guns or against the current President.  :2cents:

Wally,  I have very much enjoyed your threads and posts of the past.
It's too bad you stay away from this site.
You are a great addition to the other wonderful folks here.

I too have backed off with some of the opinions on here, but it is a democracy and the majority rules :blah: :blah: :blah:

we cant please everyone.  the mods are doing the best they can to give people the community they want, but not everyone is going to be happy about it.  unfortunately the software we currently use doesn't allow the kind of blocking suggested here.  as ken said, political discussions are a distinct minority of what is posted, but if that is still unacceptable people are free to come and go as they please.  the political topics may not be allowed here forever, but for now were trying it out.

I like to think of this forum as a place to talk to old friends and meet new ones, not just a place to gather information and parts. Maybe I have the wrong idea. I talk to friends here and elsewhere about all kinds of stuff.

Personally, I don’t have specialized friends: this friend is just for talking about cars and that friend is just for talking about cats, etc. Sometimes a friend just needs a place to vent, or has experienced a traumatic event in their lives and needs a little support from their friends.

I have learned a lot here from different people. I actually enjoy our differences. Since we are all passionate about our cars, sometimes things flare up and get emotional. But, I have seen much less of that in the Current Events section than others.

I think the loss of the Current Events section would decrease the overall value of the site, but that is just my personal opinion. I guess I can go to multiple forums to talk to my friends. It would just be easier if they were in one place. This is a great site filled with people who share their knowledge and experiences in working with "e bodies". I just think it can be more than that.

ok compromise time...I think I have found the happy mid ground.  there was a buried feature I discovered.  if you go into your profile settings you can now ignore boards.  the boards you ignore will still show up on the index page, but when you view unread posts, posts from those boards should not appear.  for those of you who are against the current events, please use this feature and report back on its functionality.  ive also created a new off topic section that can be collapsed and nearly hidden from anyone who doesn't wish to participate.  these two changes should make it such that political and off topic discussions are virtually invisible to members who don't like the subjects.  hopefully this can satisfy just about everyone.  like I said the mods are trying to make everyone happy so please work with us here...

I appreciate the extra work to make these changes a better suite for everyone. :2thumbs:

But I also want to add, it's not the mods fault. It's members that brought the politics on here, which to me is not productive to an ebody forum. Yes, we have off topic and current events and at times I do enjoy some of the topics. A good laugh can make a better day. But any discussion on politics in a forum is non-productive, always is and will be IMHO. And there is always someone that thinks they have a better way, or their side is better, but it never is. It's always someone's personal opinion. Someone's personal view, but yet nothing ever changes.
Letters should be sent to their congressmen/women if it's that big of an issue.
And lastly, the members/friends here with their talent/knowledge is what I look for and respect so I'm not going anywhere else. I'll just go about my business here  and build my Cuda.
I've said my part.
Peace Out  :smokin:

Thanks for looking into it!

Josh, thanks for the comments. Just feels different over the last few years. I also concentrate on the truck a little more now.

Even though we all come from different backgrounds and beliefs we all share a common bond because of our mopars.  I scan the new posts for topics I can contribute to or learn something from. For me it is selective reading.

I applaud the mods for everything they do here to keep this forum interesting.  Variety is the spice of life.

I have to say that it affects how often I check in. It makes me sick to see the site littered with Gun Control talk.

I wonder how the site sponsors feel about their name being above all of this as if they support an opinion.

Just figured I would raise the question.

I would hardly call it "littered" as there is only one specific section.  :clueless:

I would also love to be able to opt-out of the Current Events forum.  I've read a few posts there, and even posted there a few times, but for the most part it is just noise that I have to sort through when looking at unread posts.

Agreed! It's just bull**** to see. I'm here for my Cuda. I can get politics anywhere anytime. I feel like it's every where being shoved down my throat. Driving down the road, on the train to work, on the side of taxi cabs, politics every where I turn and I can't turn it off!

Sure.   Just click on your name and bring up your profile summary. Then there is a button that says "Modify Profile". Just click that and there is the "Ignore Boards Options" link. Just click that link and make your changes...     :2thumbs:
