Shaker front support necessary ?
« on: March 06, 2014 - 04:14:41 PM »
I've only seen a pic of it one time and I have figured out how to make one. But is it really needed other than to keep the shaker aligned properly ? My first thought is yes because there is an awful lot depending upon the one carb wingnut. But, with the hood closed there is equal pressure on the shaker from all sides.

I have one and think it helps support the shaker!

What engine ? 383 4bbl ?

I have no problem with six packs, but I restored a 340 4bbl car and never could stop the thing from turning.....

I think the single 4bbls need something to hold them in place :2cents:

For some reason the supports I had snapped off the base a few years ago, and I just have them sitting in a box with a few other extraneous parts.
I think they just sit on the valve covers IIRC, so the design purpose must have been to keep the base from hitting anything beneath it, such as distributor caps, coils, etc.
BTW, Racer57, did you purchase your 70 from Broward county Florida?
I test drove one very much like yours 5 years ago. It was a 383 4 barrel also. No wing or shaker though, my favorite color.
