    Hi all,
    I recently put an AAR hood on the car and got rid of the springs so the hood won’t bow/warp…

    Has anyone tried to fit shocks under the hood to hold it up?  I’ve seen VERY expensive hinges with shocks built-in… but I’m thinking of something more conventional.  I’ll probably hit the yards to see if I can come up with something but was curious if anyone has tried it.

    If not, I’ll most likely go with a prop rod…

    A glass hood uses a lighter spring than a conventional hood. Did you try those?

    I don't know where you are but I have seen someone to go a spring manufacturer and get springs made so the glass hood wouldn't bend.

    I tried the weaker springs, problem was they didn't hold up the hood.  I now use these rod inserts without any springs.
    Hood hinges already have the holes in them, so it's just a matter of bending up some steel rods.

    I like the idea of a hood prop, if you find something, post it up.
    The new Mustangs prop might work?

    One of the reasons I dislike the AAR hood. It would be great if someone made one from steel , its a good looking hood.When I had my AAR , I used the original springs ,  but when I parked it at home in the garage I left the hood open all the time. I never had any problems with bowing.  :bigsmile:

    I bet you could fit a strut system from a new Challenger ,they have a very light alum hood

    I really like that idea...  wonder if the weights are close enough to work.  I'm going to hit the yards on Saturday and see if I find anything similar...

    Let us know what you find.  Right now I'm using trampoline springs which hold the hood up fine (and are much lighter than regular hood springs), but I'm worried that they might eventually bow the hood.

    Has anyone tried to mount the aar hood with 4 pins? That would ensure that there wouldn't be any issues with the springs?
