Newbe with stupid story
« on: April 13, 2005 - 05:44:22 PM »
Great board.  Been around awhile, so I thought I'd join in.  Here's my latest "dumb" mistake.
A few days ago, I noticed my tac and shift light weren't working.  So, I checked the fuses and found that the whole right bank of fuses were dead.  I figure, fuse block or bulk head conection problems.  I spent all day trying to figure out how to get the fuse block off.  Why, I don't know.  I mean, it's a simple contact to contact setup.  Not much to go wrong there.  But I finally get it off, look at it and say, "now, that was stupid."  I use some electronic contact cleaned on it and put it back together.  Well, It MUST be the bulk head conection.  I contort myself and check all the conections.  Everything is fine.  Now, pissed off and at a loss.  I do what any "MALE" would do.  I get a few of my Bros over (heaven knows I wont check the manual)  and two of them start rechecking everything.  Then, my wife comes in the garage and just says, "Turn the key on and try it."  Well, five motorhead males, just stood there dumbfounded, as I turned on the key and BAMMM! we had power.  It ended up being a wirenut splice, to the tac, that was loose.  Moral of this exercise in futility is, Check the butt conections and wire nut splices first.  And remember, wives are pretty smart.  Took her out for a great dinner

Welcome to the board Crazy440!  Don't feel bad or stupid.  I've probably done worse than that.  I went out looking for 5 bows for my headliner because I knew our car didn't come with any.  Folks on the board were even looking for me.  Then I finally realized,  doh!!! I have an SE...can't use the 5 bow headliner system....they have the boards that you glue the material onto.   Only lost about a month of searching...even got outbid on some ebay auctions.  So, don't feel bad.  We've all got stories....some just won't admit it.

Welcome again...but now you must post pics of the beast!

Actually don't have a Cuda or Challenger.  Have a Charger, but since D-C went down, I have to get my fix somewhere.  I'll try and post some pic, as soon as I take some.  And thanks for the welcome.

Haha, great story.  Just remember though, if you ever make a crack about women she'll remember that one.  Women never forget.  I definitely want to see the Charger.

Good story...but moral of the story should be...never use wire nuts in an application prone to vibration...use compression type butt connectors with a proper crimping tool, or solder your connections.

welcome to the board!  And Chargers ROCK!

I did exactly that.  I took all the conections apart and soldered them.  Thanks for the info.

Yeah - Chargers are cool  :worthless:

And anyway, I always hear " Nice Charger " which I heard even just yesterday.
