73 barracuda....LA or RB?
« on: March 10, 2014 - 06:04:11 PM »
Now that the Charger and Duster projects are done, I am thinking it is time to mess with Barracuda.  The car was a 318 car but I already have both small and big blocks.  So should it be a small block and make it appear like the factory motor or go with a big block?

Guess it all depends on your ultimate goal.  I understand it's easier/cheaper to make power with a big block. If all you want to do is cruise the small block would suffice. The changeover would be simpler on the small block as not as many things would be necessary to change such as the radiator & transmission & all your accessories from the 318 would fit. Some folks just get off on having a 440, soooo whatever floats your boat.

Well I bought the car without motor, trans and radiator.  So options are open.  As far as using old stuff for the swap. There really isn't any old stuff (ie pulleys, lines etc).

Your call , what do you want to do with the car ?
Handling is better with a small block , power is easier with a big block milage can be similar

Planning to just get it driving.  Then decide to leave it as is and play with it or have a driver paint job on it.

I have had bodyshop nightmares from my Duster project and swore I was not having another car painted. But now that I don't have a project going...first time since 2004......ready to make more progress in getting all my cars on the road.

Well if your looking for a recommendation and all things being relatively equal I'd say do the big block.
I've never heard anyone say that they wished they had less power or less displacement.  :2cents:

I'd say it depends on what you already have. I'm doing a small block in my satellite. But I am hoping to do an old K5 Blazer after that and will probably big block that one, if for no other reason than a change of pace lol.
Cuda is gone :(

if you have to buy everything anyways, and you don't want to an AAR clone, then I'd install a bigblock. I'm guessing the car will be worth more should you decide to sell it at some point, and I'm guessing you'll get a better return with the bigblock, whether you choose 440-4v, 6v, or possibly a hemi.

Go with the big block!  If you're looking for someone reliable/knowledgeable to build you a monster stroker or just a hot 383/400/440 hit moparal up.  He will get you there.

He has been working a lot.  Are you sure its been five months since he logged on?  That is surprising to me.  He hits me up about once every few weeks to update me on the cuda.
