Hi all,

Today I finally opened the box containing the Magnaflow 15851 system i ordered in January.

When I went through the stuff in the box I realised that this wouldn't fit with the head pipes on my original 318 as the dimensions differ.

Is there an adapter for this?

Been in contact with the company where I bought the Magnaflow system from.
They claim that my single exhaust (and head pipes) cannot be original as no cars we're produced with single exhausts (see pic). Are they right?

Anyway, I need to find a solution for this because I don't want to put in the old system. Where can I get head pipes that will work with my system?

I have the magnaflow system on my car and have installed it on another car - it is not a direct-fit exhaust system, there is cutting and customizing needed on every install. Any decent exhaust shop should be able to make up the necessary pieces to get from your manifolds to the midpipes.

Mine took some tweeking, banging and bending. I think I got the new head pipes from Year One for my 340, but any good exhaust shop will be able to make custom parts for you and get it to fit.

My 318 '73 was single exhaust when I got it. Whether it was original, I think so. There was only a heat shield on the passenger side by the gas tank. Not the drivers side.

Yeah, they weren't a hundred percent sure of it but they couldn't find a better answer.
I'm pretty sure I've seen single exhaust Challengers from 72-73 as well but wasn't really sure.

Anyway, I need to solve this somehow

All 1 or 2 bbl cars have single exhaust and all 4, 3x2 and 2x4 bbl cars have dual exhaust, no exceptions on any year.

That Magnaflow system is even advertised 'header back' or 'cross-member back' so it's planned to use with headers.

I just order the same system, i'm planning to use some 2.5" headpipes from 440-6 with 383, but i can't say nothing of small blocks.

Anyone who knows if there are any headers that'll fit an all original 318 (with AC) that's possible to install easy, preferably without removing the engine?

I used Doug's headers on my small block Challenger. Easiest headers I have ever installed! If you wanted to keep the stock manifolds I am sure TTI could make you the front pipes you need, but the cost would probably be about half the cost of the headers. Here is a thread on my installation.

I ended up ordering a set of Patriot headers, the only pair of headers that would fit an ac- and power steering car (without making any modifications).
Hopefully this setup will work out fine for me!

I too used a magnaflow system on my car with headman headers. I had to cut and weld the one side to fit. No big deal, I bought an extra mandrel bend to get it done.

I have a SB with AC and PS and have the Doug's headers. I second the easy install vote. I expected a lot of issues and had absolutely none. It was as easy as regular manifolds. Never used the Patriots. I hope they go in as easy as the Doug's. Good luck!
