Clutch Free Play: Adjusted out, Pedal Still Low
« on: March 11, 2014 - 08:47:35 PM »
I can't figure out why my clutch pedal won't come all the way up by itself.

New Mc Cleod Pressure Plate and disc.
New throw out bearing.

Recommendations?

Hey Mike. I just put in a McLeod diaphram pp disc & tb in the chal, It was 1" from the stop. I used a lite sping, pedal to the dash frame, after the 1st breakin run removed the lite spring, pedal stays at the stop now. How far are ya hangin, ya know ,your pedal?

I have the 3 finger Borg & Beck style clutch.

The pedal is just at the point where if I were to use my toe underneath the clutch pedal, I can flip it back up the rest of the way.

Correct adjuster rod , too short maybe ? if it is adjusted properly the pedal should over center & pop all the way up

TC I have similar issues. My engine builder actually told me to check the cross bar on the clutch pedal that has the pushrod and one end of the oc spring on it. If you adjust the clutch then after a short while the pedal does not come all the way back then you are the same as me. Barry said that bar is riveted to the main pedal and over time it can swivel which changes adjustment as the pedal moves through its travel. I am going to check mine soon and weld it solid if it is loose. Barry has had this happen before that is why he made the suggestion.

Did you remove your z-bar and re-install it backwards?  This is a common problem with the 5 speed installs.  The owners forget what way it goes in because the tabs are close to being the same distance from each end of the tube.

It's not backwards

:iagree:

Mine pops and will hit you in the shin...

My friend's Dart has the same clutch as mine, B&B 10.95 Mcleod was doing the same thing and I just adjusted the clutch just a tad off the fingers and that corrected his problem.

looks like you need a longer adjuster rod from a different application

Anyone have a spare A Body adjuster rod? They're longer I believe.
I don't need the new kit. Just the adjuster rod.
