Polishing and waxing

I have a black Chally and I'm guessing the paint job is somewhere around 30 years old. I'm polishing with a light cut polish and orbital polishisher applying it with a white foam pad. Then I wipe it off with a microfibre towel. Next I apply wax by hand with a microfibre pad and wipe off with a microfibre towel. That is on the hood. The sides I applyed wax with a foam pad and the polisher wiping off with a microfibre towel. I'm experimenting. The sides came out looking shinier than the hood. Is that because i hand applied wax to the hood or is the hood paint just more deteriorated from sun and engine heat over the years?

The hood would take more abuse from the sun than any side panel.

You don't mention if this car was always garaged or anything, but if it's like most cars, it spent it's early life as an everyday driver.

Is the roof the same as the hood? Or did you not get that far yet?

I'm thinking this has nothing to do with your waxing technique.

Wax on, wax off.   

I'm thinking the paint on the hood has been somewhat effected by the heat of the engine over time. What about the decklid in the back? How did it turn out versus the hood?

The sides are clearly better than the hood, roof and deck lid. The hood is likely the worst. The car was originally yellow and I suspect that by the time it was painted black it was no longer a daily driver. Going back beyond the last four years I don't know if it was always garaged.
