What would be the reasoning behind the ballast resistor getting hot? Do i have a short somewhere? Too much of a draw? Cheap part? I really do not know. i am pretty much in the dark when it comes to this stuff.

They get hot. That's why it is ceramic. When new they usually smoke a bit.

The resistor reduces (or resists) the voltage to the ignition and the way it does it is to convert some of it into heat- same idea as a toaster or hair dryer. The thing the lads failed to mention is that you'd be well advised to carry a spare in the glove box. don't ask me how I know this.

. . . you'd be well advised to carry a spare in the glove box.
TAKE (FOLLOW) THIS ADVICE (don't ask me how I know this, either
