steering column pot connection, should it
« on: March 21, 2014 - 07:21:00 PM »
Oh wise ones
once I remove the spring pin that holds the steering shaft pot connection to the steering box, will I be able to slide it up the column far enough to clear the end of the steering box spline without the need to undo all of the steering column bolts on the firewall and dash etc?

Greg, You best off taking the column out as a unit buddy. They have internal clips that will not allow such things, it is easier to work on out of the car anyway. :2thumbs:

Im actually wanting to drop teh K member complete with steering box so I'm just wanting to disconect the column so the K frame complete will just drop straight down, I can probably pull the K frame forward enough if I jack the engine up clear of the mounts then drop the K frame down once clear of the column

Thanks Kenny and CP

No...however you hit it hard enough you can collapse the inner shaft of the steering column and remove the box without removing the column :2cents:

Just take the knuckle off Greg, and then drop the column inside off the dash and the floor plates, leave it sit inside and you will not even have to remove any wiring that way buddy. You will get enough distance from pulling the column back and it is only 5 internal bolts you have to deal withplus the knuckle in the engine bay. :2thumbs:

thanks guys, will drop the steering column from firewall and dash, Ive already taken out the roll/spring pin connecting the pot to the box so it will just slip off no problems.
