My barn find
« on: March 22, 2014 - 10:57:00 PM »
Recently purchased a 1970 challenger r/t that has been sitting in a barn for the last 20 years. Vin is that of JH23, motor is a 340 4-speed. Has the original pistol grip shift handle. With a little bit of time and $$$, she'll be looking beautiful!

Sweetness!  More details and more pics!  :grinyes:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I'm not 100% on details. I have all the original documentation to the car, it's build sheet, along with the vin plate. The little old lady didn't know what her husband had other than it said "challenger" down the side.

Cuda Hunter, the bath made this car ignite! I had people pulling in my dad's drive way asking how much I'd take for it. Being a 23 year old kid, they figured all I thought about was money. To me, this car is priceless.

Have a read of the fender tag and post up the codes, we can help you decode what it is if you like, we do not need the body number (last 6 digits on the lower left of tag) not that it matters anyway. :2thumbs: Interested to see if it is a A66 car or not.
By the way, what an awesome find and sweet looking car  :clapping:

Very cool car, just quickly looking. It is a factory A66 which means it is a 340 car but not an R/T. These have a very good following and are a little on the desirable side. - Good Score -
The Rallye hood is standard on your car, the car is factory Black paint and roofpainted same colour black, and by the tag it is a factory Black and White interior car, oh yeah also, it is supposed to have a White longitudinal side stripes. It would look incredible put back to original  :clapping:

So the r/t emblem must have been added but, it's not a "true" r/t?

That is correct, the R/T emblem does not belong on the grille. Your car is not an R/T at all, the other way to tell is by the first two digits in your VIN, if it said JS it would be an R/T, but your car is a JH, but do not let that discourage you at all - your car is a 340 car which makes it desirable.
Plus to think, you were 3 years old when this car was put away in storage, that is simply amazing in itself. :wow:

I appreciate the information that you have provided! I don't know a whole lot when it comes to mopar cars simply because they weren't ever around and the only thing that I have heard family members talk about owning were GTOs, chevelles, and Camaros. I can honestly say this is the first Mopar to be introduced to the family. I appreciate your knowledge and help!!

black car with white interior.  That is really a cool look.
Especially with the white stripe!
