what about chaning to different ratio rockers?

not recommended for big blocks by many. Creates valve geometry problems.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

After reading what you have got as a package, maybe the next Lunati down from the 704, try the 704 http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2338&gid=362  :2thumbs:
No need to touch rocker gear yet, but if you can it is a place to free up friction going to roller tip.

Ok, was leaning toward 1.6 roller rockers to gain some lift, but someone mentioned that to be a bad idea. Never heard of that before, but anyhow it seems like a band aid fix for to low a lift, wich in turn will give new problems if i upgrade the camshaft at a later date, because it then might get ridicoulsly high lift, with stock grinds anyhow.

I will keep asking this some what stupid and open questions since none of these upgrades will be due before this summer's over at least. Just getting some basic hints on what will be good things to adress when time comes.

Guess that from what I've gathered to this date, prgress will be:
New intake
upgrade camshaft (keep with hydraulic or go solid, wich will call for more upgrades in valvetrain area)
Stroker, will most likely start with a different block and build a dedicated stroker in a couple of years, but this engine is fresh and I will have to use it, and just live with the fact that I did'nt do my homework befroe building stock stroke. (matching numbers, stock drivetrain bla, bla, bla. Thougth that was important to me, not so much now)

Must also ad, I knew my comp xe262h cam was conservative (only had stock 452 heads when choosing, considerd a template porting job on them only) but what you guys are sugesting seems healthy and I guess I could have a deacent amount of top end power on the table for now. Nice to know there are some nice improvments to be done with time.

I personally would not go to the trouble of porting a pair of 452 cylinder heads, too much cost in clean up and labour to warant doing that. It would be a better idea to bolt on the Stealths as is than touch iron heads. You did the right thing in doing that, i myself do not like Comp cams, i know they work if you get the right cam, but they are not for me. :2thumbs:

Beeing in sweden and a little to young and restless to wait for answers, I will have to pay some extra from time to time to get things right ;)

The performer intake was with the car when I got it, the cam was what I thoght would be good for the heads I was going to port. When I found these stelths I just went ahead and used that cam, even if mild, for economy reasons.

Will keep you posted as I go along, with rolling chassies dyno sheets of this combo (hopfully) and what upgrades and results I get. Might be a couple of years thogh, I'm not incredably fast, nor rich at this time.

Guess most of us have. When there's money left, it always seems to end up in the car, one way or another.
And thats totaly worth it.

Ok, I'll just keep posting some questions on here, even thou this tread is a little old and on a semi-differnet topic.

What would you guys think could be a decent street rear end ratio for a car like this, with the engine I speced out in the first post? Hav possibility to get 3.23 cheap, 3.55 less cheap, and 3.9 also cheap. Now adys i sport 27" high rear tires fyi. and I plan on driving on the street, but not nesecrily on the highway (max speed limit here is 75mph)
I am fairly sure 3.9 will be a pain from time to time, even thou it will help i some situations  :burnout:
Question is, will 3.23 be enough gear to give the old 383 some respect on the street?

3.23 is respectable for street use and will get you a little better MPG with lower RPMs. 3.55s will just get you off a light a little quicker but higher RPM's with a little lower MPG too.  I just rebuilt my rear and swapped 3.91s with 3.55 because I wanted to lower my RPMs at 55+ MPH and my car is only street use.  It really depends on what you ultimately want.

But I realise your right that it's a question of personal preference and what you could live with.

Just checking in to update on the rear gear upgrade, went with the 3.23:1, have yet to install it thou.

Took a trip of about 80 miles i reccon (130 kilometers) and got about 14.5 miles per gallon (this is, if I'm converting this right, not intended for doing math. For those who do metric, 1.7 liters in 10 kilometers)
So my carbtuning, wich you could read about elsewhere on the forum, is going in the right direction.
