Cruise Control on a '70 Challenger!!
« on: March 24, 2014 - 08:34:00 PM »
Hey!

My '70 Chally has a cruise control setup on the indicator stalk and the wiring is there!
Does anyone know of a cruise unit, new or used that may be available!
I can live with it as it is, but it would be just nice to have cruise sometimes!! 8)

I used a Newport cruise on my Dodge W200 , so there is no reason a similar cruise unit will not work , you may have to fabricate a bracket etc & it will not look factory but it will work 100%

Hey Mozz, cruise control is called speed control for an E-body buddy. It was an option, but not a very popular option back in the day old mate.

My friend did the same thing, parted out a 72 Newport and put it on his 72 Challenger.

The only major issue was he had to modify the stock mounting bracket slightly for the Challenger's inner fender.  Nothing crazy, I think he had to trip back a corner.  But it was fairly painless.

He did Route 66 with me and loved it.

Like what Devil said Mozz, i am in the same boat. I have to modify the inner fender bracket to fit my 1970 Barracuda as they are different, i will make mine look original for the year, but it is not a necessity.  :2thumbs:

I had a bunch of units and brackets and wiring and cables that I sold recently for $50.

Keep looking on e-bay.  I see them actually quite often.  The hard thing to find is that stalk.

Got a picture?  curious if it's really a '70 e-body stalk you have.

I bought that box of goodies Ragtop, you sent it to a buddy of mine for me who is a master of doing elecrtical restorations, it is an awesome option i think, and seeing the reaction to someone when you say you have factory cruise control in your E-body is priceless. :22yikes:

Hard to say what that is.  Definitely it's early '70s.  You'll have to measure the stalk to see if that's e-body or b-body.

The b-body one is shorter, but fits better if you have a TUFF wheel.

Good luck!  Definitely a super cool option to have!
