New hoses and fluid for std brakes
« on: March 26, 2014 - 03:19:39 PM »
Team of wise ones.

Two questions.
Q1. What type and where to go for the best replacement flex brake lines please. two front, one rear. Car is a 73 Cuda, street/stip
Q2. time to replace the old fluid,,,,,,with what!. I see a lot of DOT series options, silicon bla, bla. and given its more than likely old fluid, is it just a matter of draining as best I can and pumping new fluid through until I see new fluid out the bleed nipples?????

Thanks

Greg

If you're on the strip, you might require braided steel flex hoses :dunno:

I use Dot 5 on all my restos
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Thanks Alan, its not a specific requirement out here but its not beyond my thoughts though, will need to justify it.

Your resto's will have all the lines flushed I assume as you will have them all off the cars, im not pulling them off the car so getting the old fluid out seems like all I can do is just flush it via topping up the master cyl and pumping it though, how will effect going to the new regarding contamination etc, if any

I've sprayed "brake-clean" through each line one at a time to remove old fluid.

One idea I had, but never tried, would be to fill the master with "brake-clean" and just open the bleeders and keep pumping it through :dunno:

I think brake clean will ruin all the seals it comes into contact with

Should be okay if he uses the non chlorinated Brake Kleen
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Raybestos or Wagner make good OEM style replacement parts. Should be easily found from your local auto parts store.

CP, new hoses and seal kits etc purchased from Rockauto. Shipping to Au was $100, I had them shipped to my Daughter in TN, she will throw them in a pre paid box with other stuff for me and ship 20Lb to me for $65 so all good.
