New Dodges & New Fords
« on: April 15, 2005 - 11:15:10 AM »
Don't you think it would be a wise thing for Chrysler to kinda follow what Ford has done with there lline of cars.  In giving them that classic muscle car look but still keeping it kinda new looking with there mustangs and T-birds.  I mean if they would come out with a new Challenger that resembled early 70's i think it would go over really well.  I mean you look at the new Charger and I'm just like what the  :fire: is that.  Even my 13 year old is telling me "Dad that can't be a Charger what are they thinking".  I see the new Mustangs now and I take a double look cause quick glance it looks like and old Mach.  I know that isn't going to happen when I see those new chargers on the road.  Oh well just my 2 cents

The everlasting question we all pose to D/C , WHY? You would think they had enough Mopar history to chart, what sold and what people liked whether it was a station wagon or a muscle car, one can have four doors, the orhter don't, otherwise it's just like every other car with four doors with a good amout of geddyup? AGAIN, names do not make a car, the car and it's history make a name! Why is that so hard to understand? It's fact, it's history, it's proven !

These kind of post sure as hell do work on my blood pressure, lol.

That's what happens when you have a car company whose primary interest is only money...they're just in it for the money.

If I had the means, I'd be driving a brand new GT Mustang today!

DCX wants to sel their  cars their way I guess , we are all asking the same ? WHy bother building 2 of everything  :dontknow:
 Jeep Cherokee & Durango
300 & Charger
no Suburban vehicle at all & they keep telling us they can`t sell 2 drs but they don`t build a cool easy to modify Cheap 2 dr with a V8 & a standard ...... They just don`t get it  :banghead: & wil not build  what we want to buy meanwhile the Mustang has zero competetion & sells thousands of them  :driving:
If I needed a car & needed a new car I too would be buying a Stang,  I would just have to wear a bag over my head while driving it so I wouldn`t be recognised     ;D

Probably the only way I could convince my wife into a new car would be if they would someday change there mind and come out with a Challenger that looks like a Challenger.  Well guess I won't have to worry about car payments for a long time  ;D

I havent seen figures on the stang sales, but there were expecting to sell just as many new mustangs as the last models, and the 300c are selling faster that they can make them,    maybe we dont agree but its working.   :puke:              we need a 2 dr.

I'd like to see a 2 door car similar to the stang from DC too. But DC's responsibility is to the stockholders, and seems to me they are doing pretty good right now. Maybe a 2 door Cuda/Challenger/Charger would sell well, maybe it would not. Our perspective is not the same as the general car buying public, so to assume it would sell like the new mustang is a little stretch. I do know this, my wife's next car (probably buying in a year or so) will be a 300 hemi. There is NO way she would own a 2 door. She needs the 4 doors for the kids and when she has to take someone out for lunch at work. I've driven one and it was a great car, and the car has really grown on me looks wise.

I also seem to remember that the T-bird is being phased out due to poor sales..might be wrong about that though? I do like the new stang, and I've owned a few mustangs thru the years (85 GT, 98 GT, 97 Cobra convert, 03 GT convert) and will probably own some more.

My thoughts on this are people always go for something different.  Look when they came out with there pickups in the style they are now.  They were new and different and Sales skyrocketed.  Then when they came out with the PT Cruisers they were selling out faster then they could make them.  I can only hope they give it a shot And we get to see a New Challenger T/A to   :burnout: over the competition someday.

The sedan way of thinking is predominant at Daimler. My take is that they are using Dodge as entry level vehicle for future Mercedes buyers. Chrysler states that the "young male middle 30s up at $60,000 and up midrange salary" is the target. So what are these guys going to buy at 40 and up and $100,000 plus? Step up to the real German boys.
Shame as the Magnum has no real Mercedes lineage like the 300 and "Chokger" display. Those are pretty direct lead-ins.

Since the nice weather has hit I`m seeing lots of new Mustangs and already a few `verts so they are selling very well even though DC seems to think there is no market for a two door model.  :dontknow:

I am still neutral on the new Charger as i've yet to sample one in person but JS27NOB i 100% agree with you.
Once DCX chose the platform the new Charger would be based on, it became "fait accompli" for it to be a 4dr model. They'll have to admit they blew it on that count.
Please go back to the drawing board, or computer screen, or Etch-A-Sketch or whatever the heck is lying around and develop a 2dr Charger design...

Personally I dont feel the new DC conpany has earned the right to resurrect any of the old muscle car names. Ford and Chevy have. They both pushed through the tough times and kept the lines alive through the gas crunches and market down slopes. GM Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, etc and Ford Mustang. They hung in there. Chrysler ran with its tail between its legs for fear of losing profit and killed or disgraced their lines. Shelby Charger was not much more than a K car with graphics. So now that the market is hot for muscle cars DC is jumping in with names they have long since abandoned. No integrity. Similar to Pontiac GTO's. They brought it back to an egg with 4 wheels! Big deal it has some power. Its ugly. And where were they through all the down times. Where was there devotion to all the past GTO fans that would have probably continued with the model. The same way Camaro, Mustang and Corvette fans continued with their preferred models. It kind of like when a baseball team makes it to the finals and all of a sudden all these last minute wanna be fans coming crawling out of the woodwork. I've seen some of the long term fans get a little upset because they had stuck with the team through good and bad. I guess its all about integrity. And DC is missing it. Watch and see th next down slope of performance car sales and the Viper will have its days numbered. Anyone care to comment?

I have a ton of thoughts on this subject, but here are just a few I have.

Personally, if you are going to do a body change on a particular line of car, I think it needs to keep a few traits from the previous generation.  Just like Corvettes have and to a pretty good degree, the Mustangs have also.  But this new Charger is completely wrong, as is the GTO in my opinion.  The GTO has the idea the original did to come out with a plain Jane car that has a punch and that is the only thing it shares.  Supposedly, the GTO was a plain car for the times.

If DC wants to build new models, like the Viper, that is way cool with me.  So far with it, they have kept the styling with the new generation.  If they want to resurrect a name, they don't need to screw it up like they did that ugly behemoth of a car they slapped the Charger name on.  That fact a lone scares the crap out of me, if they start telling us a new Cuda is coming.  They will ruin it!

I have seen the new Charger in person.  The thing is huge!  It is almost on par with the new 300 in size.  (I dig the 300 by the way)
