Ever thought of changing carrers
« on: April 01, 2014 - 04:54:12 PM »
Man after a tough month that saw lots of crazy days, and the last two the craziest...I wonder if it is time for a change.

I am so far behind at work right now I am not sure I will ever get caught up!!!!

Despite the amazing opportunity I have been given to grow a little piece of our business, it is sometimes overwhelming and I sometimes think how nice it would be to have a job you could walk away from at the end of the day.

I wonder if you can make a good living selling tools of a truck???

Oh well, I am not getting anything done on here....back to it!!

Yes I have. After 20 years crawling around crawl spaces, attics and kitchens I am fortunate enough to be in a position to close my refrigeration business and make a change. Now to figure out what I want to b when I grow up. I learned a lot from being an owner of a very specialized type of business. Too hard to find GOOD help and when u build a customer base off of your personalized service no employee can seem to please the customer as well anyway. So ending up a 1 man show means being on call 24/7. Time to slow down a little bit for me. Hope you can get to some peace too.

Ian that is one of my favorite tunes!!

I am lucky in one sense, I have found my soul mate and have a great family.

On the other hand, my wife is a stay at home mom...so, that option of relying on her income does not exist!

Oh that and I did the auto thing before, as much as I love working on my own stuff, I really do not want to d it for a living, maybe sometime down the road, but probably not.

Oh well, all in all life is pretty good.

Tool truck salesmen used to make a decent living. That's before the industry changed all of it's rules. Now
it seems I always hear about the tool manufacturer taking the profits from the salesmen and making it more
difficult for them to survive.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Jason, what do you do for a living, if I may ask?

I work for one of the largest Accounting / Professional Services Firms in the world.

I am a Senior Manager in the Indirect Tax (Sales Tax) practice and no I am not an accountant!!!

Currently I manage our Canadian Compliance Center, which means I manage the preparation and filing of Canadian sales tax returns for our clients nationally/ globally.  My time is focused on managing and growing the practice.

I have been with the firm for almost 15 years!  Oh and I am 39 (at least for another few months), jut in case you were wondering.

Basically I am a desk jockey!!!

Actually I'm sure lots of us have those days, weeks or months and wish we had a different job.  Sure it might be justifiable but sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side.  I know I have to look deep and realize that I'm fortunate to be where I am.

On the other side though, finding a job isn't always easy.  Both of my brother's have been laid off for at least 9 months and still haven't been able to find a job in their field as they are deemed as "too specialized".

I Studied marketing and advertising in college and got a job in that industry. After watching all of my friends get laid-off during the last recession I ended up applying for a job at the border services.

I enjoy the fact that they frown on paying overtime and since I work in our systems I can't work from home. I don't think I will ever win the financial lottery working for the Canadian federal government but I like the sounds of pension.

I think it was way easier as a younger person to change the direction of my career then if I were to do it now but if your not happy, maybe it's time to move on!
