800 hp hard to believe?
« on: April 02, 2014 - 06:33:50 AM »
New Mopar Muscle mag has a Super Bee with a 500 cu in wedge motor. Edelbrock Victor heads, Super Victor intake, 10.5/1 CR, solid roller .69 lift
and duration at .050 at around 275.  They say WITHOUT nitrous it makes near 800 hp. Does not seem possible with that CR? But, I did not follow
the build that may have been discussed in earlier mags.  Also, that is way to much duration for a CR of only 10.5/1. Wonder if the 800 is a typo?
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Depends , we built a 440 non stroker using those heads & intake with a 660 lift roller cam & EFI & made 710 HP on pump gas at 4000' altitude but 710 HP was a gross rating as used in 1970 not the later net rating used later , of course using the highest # sounds the most impressive which is probably what they did also

I would venture to say that if those 800 hp numbers are true, those Eddy heads have had some extensive port work performed...    :grinyes:
