I used to really want a flip-top. One day at Carlisle a few years ago I started really paying attention to them, and the conclusion I came to is this: things like hood scoops and spoilers can get away with being different colors and drawing attention to themselves because they're saying "look at me! I've got performance!" (even if it isn't true :-)  ). But a gas cap isn't something that you really want to draw attention to. The message there is "Look at me! I keep fumes in the tank!" So, me personally, I go with body color.

The body colour cap sits flush with the body panel for a smooth, sleek look. The flip top cap looks like something was stuck onto the side of the car.

:iagree: I used to want one, but the car looks really slick without it. That is why I left my factory hood on my R/T car, it looks slick, is an R/T, came with the flat hood, and still has power

That's what I'm starting to think. My car did not come with a fliptop guess However I always thought those were cool so as a result over the years while I wait for my car to be finished I have collected the fliptop gas As well as the gas cap under the fliptop gasket. But trying to keep it all original as it was when itcame off the floor of the factory now I'm starting to question

I prefer the look of the flip-top myself. Function on the other hand goes to the flush body colour cap. The flip top requires a cap underneath. It's kind of a pain to take out each fill up.  I don't understand why the engineers didn't make an integral seal with the flip top.  :clueless: :2cents:

I like it, one of the first things I added to my car. To overcome the aerodynamic disadvantage... I just built a better motor :aarg: :smilielol:

I'm going to disagree with most of you because of this...The flip top is a Mopar thing. I love it.

I owned my FM3 R/T for 18 years, I think I wished everyday it had a flip top. My orange car has one on it and it hasn't left the garage yet.

mike, I'm with ya there, but I think that the car needs certain things to get it. Mine is a flat hood , no spoiler, no stripe R/T. I think those things are needed to add the flip top. I like them on cars that they fit with the rest of what is going on. Some it looks right an others it looks like a chrome pimple.

I understand it's iconic but to say it's mopar I think is a bit of "Being blinded by the logo of your favorite company"

Was it not on corvettes int he 60's? Several european cars? I don't really see Flip Top Gas caps as a "mopar thing"

that being said I do like the look and I even have one on my 74 but I did this because the body color one to my knowledge is not vented.
