I'm getting ready to order parts for my '72 'cuda front end. The pitman arm has the number 2835878 16105 stamped on it. Is that a part number? How do I know which pitman arm to order?

Probably the factory part #. Is there a reason you're concerned about ordering a pitman arm for a 72? As long
as it is a 72 there is only 1 choice, unless you are going to a fast ratio arm set-up. The pitman arm spline
diameter changed in 73.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Because I'm having trouble identifying the '72 part number. From what I can find so far, the spline diameter changed from '72 to '73 from 1.10" to 1.20".

On the Rock Auto website they don't list a pitman arm for '72 or older. They do list a '73 and newer with a diameter of 1.004" (#K7075) and 1.10" (#K7076) for the Barracuda but only 1.004" for the 'cuda.

I've got a '72 Mopar parts book that I've used to identify all the OEM part numbers with the Moog part numbers except the pitman arm which is listed as 2835880.

So I guess the best thing to do is remove the pitman arm from the steering gearbox and measure the base of the spline.

If you're lucky you have the large diameter, about 1/2 the cost of the smaller part.

If you ever upgrade/change the steering box, get the post 73 unit, that's what I did.

Not much help with your question since its possible for either large/small to be on a 72, so measuring it is the best option.

The factory parts manual shows part no. 2835880 as a kit for the steering link and idler arm.

So I ordered the Moog K7076 based on the measurement I got from the output shaft of the steering gear and it's too big.
So when I Google 1972 'cuda pitman arm all I find are overpriced NOS or used.
So why is it so hard to find that pitman arm but the 73 and 74 are readily available and cheap?

Not to state the obvious, but did you try the local parts store? I bought the idler arm, that is parallel to the pitman arm for my 70 Barracuda last summer for very cheap at Car Quest. They were able to pull the micro fiche diagram, and had the specs on the part.  :2cents: Good luck, you could also try PST (performance suspension... can't remember what the t stands for?). Hope this helps?

You need the other #7075 and the idler arm, because yours is not as good as this #7041.

Sounds like you have the early "small" power box / manual box.

I was faced with the same problem on my '72, the pitman arms are scarce for some undisclosed reason and WAY overpriced when you find one.  I was told that a '73 box would bolt right up, and '73 arms are cheap and plentiful so that is what I bought.  Hopefully my source of information is right.

Yep your good! I have a 70 with a 73-74 box/pitman arm

Looks like it will be the same sort of deal on the new brake rotors I need.
The '72 are way more expensive than the '73.

Yes if you swap in the 73-up E/A body spindles  you can use the cheaper rotors. In 73 they changed the inner bearing/spindle size from 1.250" to 1.375" . If you do this swap not only can you use the cheaper rotors but also rotors that are bigger in diameter with a simple caliper bracket swap.

This article says you can't use the similar B-Body spindle but this is not true, you can! Only difference is it's taller.
