what MPG do you average city/Highway?
« on: April 08, 2014 - 10:10:30 PM »
Wanted to hear how some have done on their Highway MPG. City is just too variable.   :burnout:
What set up if you'd like to tell us as well that you have.

Strong 340 (the only thing stock is the X heads) with 3.23 gears. Generally get 16-17 overall.

My dad would ask that question about my dodge 4x4.  :smilielol:

MPG is not a question in my book for a mopar. Just drive the darn thing and stop at every gas station while doing so.

I agree. I didn't buy this car for fuel mileage, but it's nice to know and let others know that you can have both performance and some economy! My old set up 440/727 got 10 MPG's . I almost doubled that with the new combo and 2X's the power too! Neil was a big help when I was building my engine. He has a sticky about a combo he built that gets slightly better fuel mileage too! :2thumbs:

I have to consider fuel economy when we pay almost 9 bucks for a gallon here in Sweden. Hopefully going from 2.76 to 3.55 for my rear axle this summer is not gonna get the consumption up too much. I wanna drive a lot. Getting about 18 MPG now, 340/727, pretty good.

Big inch Hemi in an "A" body. Just a shade north of 800 HP on pump gas. 3800 converter, 4:10 rear gear, and 31 inch tall rear tires. I get a tick over 10 mpg while cruising at 55-60 mph. And I love the way it sounds doing it.....    :grinyes:

I have a mild 440, 750 edelbrock carb and intake, 5 speed tremec, 3:55 dana. Bought the car last summer and drove it home from tennessee. I avereged 16.5 driving between 70 & 80 mph.
I just install a 6 pack. Wonder what that will do for mileage?

what would you get with your set up if you didn't have an OD

Hey Brad,

what would you get with your set up if you didn't have an OD

Hard to say? I got 9-10 MPG's with my old 440/727 same 3:55 rear gear ratio?

The ugly truth is I get 10-11 hiway with what I consider a mild build.

I remember seeing somewhere that in 1970, a 440 was rated at 13 MPG hiway, so I don't feel too bad. I just wish gas was 50 cents a gallon like back then.   :grinyes:

Best I've managed in my 74 satellite with a 318 is 27 mpg on the hwy.

After I build the motor I am hoping that I might still see 20 on the hwy.
