What would you say is the best way tpo caluculate this?

I seldomly let the tank go below a quarter tank as i don't completely trust the 40 year old guage.

Simple. Fill up the tank. Mark the mileage when you fill it up. Drive the car until you get down to where you normally put fuel in it and fill it back up again. Divide the number of gallons it took to fill it up into the number of miles travelled and you have your MPG....

74, you'll have to divide the number of litres by 4.54 to get gallons or 3.789 to get US gallons. I would recommend using Canadian gallons. It'll sound like you're getting better mileage

Anyone still use imperial gallon? I thought most are on metric for a long time. We are probably the last one still on the old system.

Big inch Hemi in an "A" body. Just a shade north of 800 HP on pump gas. 3800 converter, 4:10 rear gear, and 31 inch tall rear tires. I get a tick over 10 mpg while cruising at 55-60 mph. And I love the way it sounds doing it.....   

800+ hp and you're still getting 10 mpg? That's having your cake and eating it too! Gawd! What a beast! That has got to be a blast!

I found this old burnout video in the "Burnouts" forum. It's in the first post of the thread. My car begins shortly after the 2 minute mark. Line lock wouldn't hold it still and the slicks just got hot and sticky, so it wouldn't sit there and burn. Those big tars just started pushing..  LoL  The last attempt had some water down and I got it in high gear. Turn up the sound and enjoy my little "A" body...

I must have a bad tune, only avg 10-12mpg around town.  Mild 340, auto with 3.73 gears.
In the process of putting in a 518 tranny, but this will only help the hwy numbers, which I have no idea what that is, I'm guessing 15mpg?

Doing it to bring the RPMs down, it's teeth jarring to "cruise" at 3500-4000 rpm.

when I get her out i will give her a try!...however I think this is going to be a situation where not knowing might be better!

Is there other gallons than US gallons?

Yes. A US gallon is 3.96 litres. An imperial gallon is 4.5 litres. It's why Canadian cars 'seem' - on paper- to get better mileage than the exact same US car.
