Classic Car Insurance?
« on: April 09, 2014 - 01:33:28 PM »
So I am looking for an insurance company for the cars and wonder who has what and have your experience with that company been good.  I have had Farmers for the car but now they tell me they will not insure the 1970 but will insure the 1973 . . . they say the 70 is to old.   :screwy:

I just did online quotes and Grundy came out the cheapest and haggerty was the most expensive but need input.  I only checked Grundy, Haggerty and Heacock.

I only store my Mopar so my annual with Hagerty is $171, I cannot speak for the other insurance companies but Hagerty was very easy to deal with. I sent them a pic of my car and we agreed right then and there what the value of the coverage was going to be.

I had my Hemi Super Bee insured with Haggerty when I was rear ended on the way to the Woodward dream cruise. I submitted a claim and they never question the repairs. (rear bumper only) They did ask if I was satisified.
I recently switched to Grundy because it was cheaper.

I have used Grundy since day one. Never had to file a claim though. I hope I never have to utilize their services....   :grinno:

Everything is dependent on miles driven per year, agreed value, and has to be in a secured garage or storage.  Im with Heacock, 1000 miles max per year, at $67000 agreed value for $380/yr and 500,000 liability.  With my umbrella insurance, I had to get 500K liability.  Had Heacock for about 20yrs with no claims.  I have tried online shopping about 2 yrs ago with other companies and they were more $$$.  So I stayed with Heacock.

I have American Collectors. Been with them 20 years, never any claims and no problems changing mileage for driving. I have checked around over the years and premiums pretty much the same. Never enough difference to make me change. Have 4 cars with them, appraised value on the T/A and stated value on the other 3. Local agent.

For me Hagerty was cheapest and least hassle.  Both Challengers are insured, one as "under construction" and the other running and driving.  I haven't reviewed the policy yet this year, but at the time I found Hagerty was the most liberal regarding use of the vehicle (ie: no restrictions regarding to and from shows only, parades only etc.)
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

Grundy is excellent. I pay 3 something a year for agreed upon value.

I did have a claim last year, but they sent someone out pronto, and I got a check for way more than the body shop charged me.    :naughty:

I found it very easy to arrange Hagerty, and they had very few restrictions. The amount I paid was fair for the agreed value in my opinion. :2cents:

I just cancelled it on Monday, we'll see how fast they are at a refund, if there is any :dunno:

I have Grundys for my 71 ebody. Agreed value of $37k for about $279 per year, plus I had my 92 Stealth thrown on a couple years ago at $7k agreed value for about $80 more. Both cars insured for less than $400.
Cant beat that with a stick, and I live in a very expensive insurance area.
The usual rules apply. Cant be used for everyday driving, must be garaged, etc.
I dont drive either car more than a few hundred miles per year.

I currently don't have the Challenger insured but did call around a couple years ago.

The issue for me is that I want to drive my car and enjoy it, like around town, pick up the kids at school, etc...

When I called Hagerty, I told them I wanted to drive the kids to school like once a week or something.  They said once or twice a year.  That didn't fit my needs.

I emailed Grundy and they said you could drive the car around as much as you want, they want you to enjoy the car.

At the time I think for $20,000 agreed value they quoted me like $269 or so.

I have American Collectors for my '70 Challenger R/T 440 Six-Pack. I picked the value--they agreed--never looked back. Beat all the others by a substantial amount. No restrictions :money:
